GATHERING SONGS Hymn 442 Just As I Am, without One Plea stanzas 1 & 4 Hymn 721 Lord, You Have Come to the Lakeshore stanzas 1 & 4 *CALL TO WORSHIP Leader: Who is like the Lord our God? People: Let the name of the Lord be praised, now and forevermore. Leader: From the rising of the sun to its setting, we praise the name of the Lord. People: Let us worship God together. *PRAYER OF THE DAY Come quickly, O God, to join us, for we are eager for your presence. Send your compassion and your mercy to meet us and fill us. May the power of your Holy Spirit be with us and in us this day, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen. *HYMN 39 Great Is Thy Faithfulness Faithfulness *PRAYER OF CONFESSION Silence Unison God of grace, we acknowledge that the lives we lead fall short of your expectations for us. You desire that we quietly live out our faith, yet our days can be so noisy and full. You desire that our hearts be filled with peace, yet we think unkind thoughts and hold on to anger. You desire that we act in godly ways, but we choose unwisely and end up far from where you want us to be. Forgive us, gracious Lord.

*ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS Leader: Believe the good news, People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. *RESPONSE TO FORGIVENESS PROCLAMATION OF THE WORD FAITH SHARING WITH CHILDREN Penny Morton Children will be invited to come forward. At the conclusion of the children s sermon, parents may take preschool children to the nursery. Children in grades K-2 may go to the chapel for Children s Church. ANTHEM Be Thou My Vision Mark Hayes Be thou my vision, O Lord of my heart, naught be all else to me, save that thou art; Thou my best thought by day or by night, waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light. Be thou my wisdom, O thou my true word, I ever with Thee, Thou with me, Lord; Thou my great Father, and I thy true son; Thou in me dwelling, and I in thee one. Riches I heed not, nor man s empty praise, Thou mine inheritance, now and always; Thou and Thou only first in my heart, High King of heaven, my treasure Thou art. High King of Heaven, the victory won, May I reach heaven s joys O bright heaven s sun; Heart of my own heart, whatever befall, Still be thou my vision, O Ruler of all. PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION NEW TESTAMENT READING I Timothy 2:1-7 Pew Bible, page 196 SERMON Prayers, Intercessions, and Thanksgivings Mrs. Ayscue *AFFIRMATION OF FAITH excerpted from The Confession of 1967 The church disperses to serve God wherever its members are, at work or play, in private or in the life of society. Our prayer and Bible study are part of the church s worship and theological reflection. Our witness is the church s evangelism. Our daily action in the world is the church in mission to the world. The quality of our relationships with other persons is the measure of the church s fidelity to God. We are the church. Amen. *HYMN 372 O for a World Azmon
