call to worship The Scriptural call to worship at the beginning of our service reminds us of the centrality of God s Word. God reveals Himself to us through His Word and invites us to respond corporately to Him in worship. I love you, O Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. I call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised, and I am saved from my enemies. Psalm 18:1 3 offering Giving is an act of worship in which the members of Hickory Grove give generously of our substance to further the mission of the church and to bring glory to God. Blessed are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the Lord! Blessed are those who keep his testimonies, who seek him with their whole heart, who also do no wrong, but walk in his ways! You have commanded your precepts to be kept diligently. Oh that my ways may be steadfast in keeping your statutes! Then I shall not be put to shame, having my eyes fixed on all your commandments. I will praise you with an upright heart, when I learn your righteous rules. I will keep your statutes; do not utterly forsake me. benediction Psalm 119:1 8 Now to him who is able to strengthen you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery that was kept secret for long ages but has now been disclosed and through the prophetic writings has been made known to all nations, according to the command of the eternal God, to bring about the obedience of faith to the only wise God be glory forevermore through Jesus Christ! Amen. Romans 16:25 27 3

romans sermon series Paul s letter to the Romans was written to clarify the Gospel, encourage believers, and motivate evangelism. It was written to a church trying to live out its Christian faith with a distinctly Christian worldview. Similar to us, they were diverse in their backgrounds and experiences, yet, just like us, they were unified in their belief in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Romans is an incredible letter inspired by God and created to lead us to worship the Lord Jesus Christ and to live out the implications of the Gospel together as a church. romans scripture journals We have Scripture Journals available for purchase in our Resource Center to help you study, memorize, and meditate on Romans throughout this series. scripture memory During the Romans sermon series, take the challenge to memorize different verses from Romans. For the month of February the scripture memory passage is Romans 1:16 17. For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, The righteous shall live by faith. Romans 1:16 17 (ESV) 4

book recommendation Plain Theology for Plain People by Charles Octavius Boothe Available in our Resource Center volunteer opportunities As a member of Hickory Grove, are you currently serving on Sunday morning? Serving is a way of demonstrating spiritual gifts for the furthering of the church s ministry for the sake of the Kingdom. It is not about filling a role and completing a task but about adopting a mindset of service that leads one to think about others over self. We believe every member should be serving in some capacity. If you are not serving, take this opportunity to look for ways to get involved. Some opportunities include... Door greeter Lobby and Worship Center usher Technical production (camera operator, audio, etc.) Food services volunteer Sports league coach (baseball, basketball, soccer) Childcare volunteer Sunday School teacher (children and students) If you are interested in any of the above opportunities, visit HickoryGrove.org/Serve. 5
