call to worship The Scriptural call to worship at the beginning of our service reminds us of the centrality of God s Word. God reveals Himself to us through His Word and invites us to respond corporately to Him in worship. Great and amazing are Your deeds, O Lord God the Almighty! Just and true are Your ways, O King of the nations! Who will not fear, O Lord, and glorify Your name? For You alone are holy. All nations will come and worship You, for Your righteous acts have been revealed. Revelation 15:3b-4 corporate confession In light of God s holiness, wrath, and grace, we acknowledge that we have all sinned against God and are in need of His sanctifying grace. This confession occurs in the context of a covenant relationship made possible through the perfect life, substitutionary death, and victorious resurrection of Jesus. As Christians, our confession is not so that God should forgive us, but because, through Christ, He has already forgiven us. Seek the Lord while He may be found; call upon Him while He is near; let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the Lord, that He may have compassion on him, and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon. Isaiah 55:6-7 offering Giving is an act of worship in which the members of Hickory Grove give generously of our substance to further the mission of the church and to bring glory to God. 3
romans sermon series Paul s letter to the Romans was written to clarify the Gospel, encourage believers, and motivate evangelism. It was written to a church trying to live out its Christian faith with a distinctly Christian worldview. Similar to us, they were diverse in their backgrounds and experiences, yet, just like us, they were unified in their belief in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Romans is an incredible letter inspired by God and created to lead us to worship the Lord Jesus Christ and to live out the implications of the Gospel together as a church. book recommendation Plain Theology for Plain People by Charles Octavius Boothe Available in our Resource Center scripture memory During the Romans sermon series, take the challenge to memorize different verses from Romans. For the month of February the Scripture memory passage is Romans 1:16 17. For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, The righteous shall live by faith. Romans 1:16 17 (ESV) 4
