This will be a lovely afternoon starting after the Congregational Meeting next Sunday, at about 1pm, with hot soups for lunch, a time of worship, and time for fellowship. Enjoy your time with your God and girlfriends. Lunch and childcare are provided. Contact Elissa McGhee for more information, elissa.mcghee@gmail.com. ATTENTION FOODIES! "FOOD AND FRIENDS" IS ABOUT TO BEGIN! The Journey announces a new opportunity for us to get to know each other a little better, while taking advantage of the DC area being a gastronomic target-rich environment. "Food and Friends" will start out with 6 groups, each with a sponsoring single or couple. The idea is for 6-8 individuals in each group, sharing a meal 3-4 times over a 4-month period. Can be home potlucks or a favorite restaurant or pub. For families who wish, the church will make the kitchen and play space downstairs available for carry-out or potluck. Groups are purely social in nature. We hope many of our new families and recent guests will give it a try, although the groups are open to all who wish to join. Sign up sheets are in the lobby. Sign up this month - first meals in January. For more information, contact Jim Pruitt with ConneXion Ministries at jptex1950@aol.com. COMMUNION PREPARATION FOR 2016 Have you been looking for a place to serve at the Journey? We need people to prepare communion. Making sure that everyone can participate in remembering the sacrifice that Jesus made for us is perhaps one of the most important and rewarding tasks you can have! We need people to prep & set up before 1st service and between services, and someone to clean up after 2nd service. You ll see a sign up sheet in the lobby reflecting these two areas. Normally sign up is on a monthly basis, but if you can only serve one or two weeks in a month, that s OK, too! Easy to follow instructions and all supplies are provided. If you can help, sign up on the sheet in the lobby, or just talk to Judy Davis. For more information, contact judydavis5839@gmail.com. THURSDAY, DECEMBER 24: CHRISTMAS EVE Our Christmas Eve services will be at 6:00 & 7:30 pm. We will have childcare for sleepers through walkers available for both services.

Focus on Missions SUNDAY, DECEMBER 20TH: KOINONIA CHRISTMAS BASKETS DUE We are approaching the Holiday Season and once again Koinonia is requesting Christmas Baskets for their clients. Our family at the Journey - either with their life group or on their own (it makes a great family activity!) - can help a family who otherwise might not have a Christmas dinner by donating a Christmas Basket. If you & your family or your life group would like to help, please pick up a basket! A list of suggested items is included. We will be filling them with enough food to feed a family of four (4). And be sure to sign up that you ve taken a basket on the sign up sheet provided - we need to register each basket with Koinonia so they know how many they have to give away. Baskets need to be returned filled up by Sunday December 20th. For more information, contact Judy Davis at judydavis5839@gmail.com. Also, you can join Fiona s this Thursday through next Thursday to contribute to Koinonia. See the ad below:

Sermon Outline Matthew 1:1, This is the genealogy of Jesus the Messiah the son of David, the son of Abraham. Luke 1:3-4 (NLT), Having carefully investigated everything from the beginning, I also have decided to write a careful account for you, most honorable Theophilus, so you can be certain of the truth of everything you were taught. John 1:1-2, In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. John 1:3, Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. James Irwin, There is one thing better than man walking on the moon, and that is God walking on the earth. Observation #1: Before the world began God had a PLAN to rescue mankind Isaiah 7:14, "Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel. Isaiah 53:6 (NCV), The Lord has put on him the punishment for all the evil we have done. Luke 1:30-31 (CEV), Then the angel told Mary, Don t be afraid! God is pleased with you, and you will have a son. His name will be Jesus. Matthew 1:21, She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins.

Sermon Outline 2 Corinthians 5:21 (NCV), Christ had no sin, but God made him become sin so that in Christ we could become right with God. Observation #2: Not only did God have a PLAN, He sealed it with His PROMISE that it would be fulfilled and God always keeps His PROMISES Micah 5:2 (MSG), But you, Bethlehem, David s country, the runt of the litter from you will come the leader who will shepherd-rule Israel. He ll be no upstart, no pretender. His family tree is ancient and distinguished. Isaiah 9:6 (NCV), A child has been born to us; God has given a son to us. He will be responsible for leading the people. His name will be Wonderful Counselor, Powerful God, Father Who Lives Forever, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 53:5 (CEV), But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed. Psalm 22:16-18 (NLT), My enemies surround me like a pack of dogs; an evil gang closes in on me. They have pierced my hands and feet. I can count all my bones. My enemies stare at me and gloat. They divide my garments among themselves and throw dice for my clothing. Reflection 2 Corinthians 9:15, Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift! Romans 3:23-25 (NCV), Everyone has sinned and fallen short of God's glorious standard, and all need to be made right with God by his grace, which is a free gift. They need to be made free from sin through Jesus Christ. God sent him to die in our place to take away our sins. We receive forgiveness through faith in the blood of Jesus' death.
