Orchard Park United Methodist Church 3700 N. Buffalo Street Orchard Park, NY 14127 716-662-7912 Email: opumc@verizon.net Website: opumc.com Pastor Jay Roberts 716-909-3691 Jay_r_14120@yahoo.com VISTA The Volume 61 JANUARY 2019 Newslette r Number 1 I want to take the opportunity to thank EVERYONE who has exercised leadership, served, from Pastor Jay... volunteered, assisted, helped, contributed, played a part, sacrificed... however you have used your gifts and abilities, no matter how big or small, as disciples of Christ to help facilitate the dream of God s kingdom within the life of our church, our community and the world! Birthdays Pg 2 It s amazing to consider the number of ways that OPUMC has reached out to the homeless, the lonely, the disheartened, the confused, offering God s blessing of love and compassion to the least of these. I don t have enough space to share all that our church has done to realize God s purpose for the life of the church. Prayer List Pg 2 I am reminded of something I came across some time ago. (its source not cited): UMW Pg 2 2019 Budget Pg 3 Church Contact Information/Staff Calendar Pg 4 Pg 5 Some churches have parking problems, some other churches don t. Some churches have kids running around making a lot of noise, some other churches tend to be very quiet. Some churches usually have more expenses than money, some other churches don t need to spend much money because not much is going on. Some churches are growing so fast you don t always know everybody s name, some other churches everybody has known everybody s name for years. Some churches enthusiastically and generously support missions, some other churches keep it all at home. Some churches are filled with tithers, some other churches are filled with tippers. Some churches energize, some other churches fossilize. Some churches are always planning for the future, some other churches live in the past. Some churches seek new ministries and new methods, some other churches don t want to. Some people pray for their church, some others never quite get around to it. Inside this Issue: Worship Information Pg 2 As we begin a new year I invite you to make a promise to God (not a resolution). The promise is to pray for OPUMC and it s leadership every day to pray that we remain faithful to the mission of the church to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. You are awesome! I thank God for you all! See you in Church!

May the hope, joy, peace and love of Christmas be with you the whole year!! In December, our time together was great, sharing the Vision of Shalom, missing those who could not attend, and drank chai tea as a symbol of United Methodist Women s global mission focus. Our little auction for mission (plus donations) resulted in nearly $700. Thank you all for participating!! Now we want to disburse these funds to organizations on January 8, 2019. (Donations accepted till then.) 6:30 PM on January 8: All women are invited and welcome to come help decide where the money goes. PLUS, we need to plan the year s programs, events and/or fundraiser. You may have heard about pledge to UMW for our budget to replace the fish dinners and the cookie sale. The commitment is a few dollars instead of hard work at the dinners or purchasing ingredients for holiday cookies. I hope to see YOU on the 8th. Planning ahead, the next District program is Gift Day on March 16, at Grand Island Trinity UMC. Details including a list of gift donations will be posted in February. The annual District Communion Breakfast is April 13. Shalom, Carolyn Wrinn Page 2
