MARCH 6, 2016 ST. COLUMBANUS CHURCH #481/PAGE 4 Congratulations to the school parents for their hard work in running a successful Penny Social. And thanks to all who participated. As I was observing the school parents and their children I noticed how the parents treated the other students as if they were their own. I also noticed that the students expressed their thanks to a parent who donated her winnings to the school. Our school fosters a family atmosphere that the children thrive in. I hope all parents will consider sending their children to St. Columbanus School. Join our host, the Knights of Columbus, for an evening of fun and good food next Saturday March 12, for their annual St. Patrick s Dinner Dance. We are at about the midpoint of Lent this weekend as we celebrate the 4 th Sunday of Lent called Laetare Sunday. The name comes from the first word of the Latin Entrance Antiphon, which says, Rejoice (Laetare), O Jerusalem; and gather round, all you who love her; rejoice in gladness. After having been in sorrow; exult and be replenished with the consolation flowing from her motherly bosom. The priest wears the rose chasuble as a sign that we are indeed halfway through our season of penance before we celebrate the victory of Christ s death and glorious resurrection that conquered sin and death. We are reminded that we should be joyful even in this penitential time because the ultimate victory of redemption has been won. Many people, however have crosses to bear, so I pray that they will unite their sufferings with those of Jesus and be at peace. Let s not forget to pray for our brothers and sisters who carry heavy burdens this Lent. May our prays and good works help to ease their yoke and lighten their burden. In Jesus and Mary, Fr.
