LETTERS FROM OUR SEMINARIANS To the parishioners and visitors of the Cathedral, This past year at Immaculate Heart of Mary Seminary in Winona, Minnesota has been a very busy and fruitful time of prayer, study and fellowship among my fellow seminarians and classmates. Over the year I felt as if I grew a great deal in my prayer life and grew closer to the Triune God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. On top of that my studies in philosophy are going well, to learn about a lot of the top tier thinkers in history can be quite a difficult task, but I know that all of your prayers are what is keeping me going strong. This past year we were blessed to witness a priesthood ordination for the Diocese of Winona and to go to the Chrism Mass for Winona where all the holy oils for the sacraments are blessed by the bishop. With the end of the school year though comes the summer assignment, and this summer I am at the Institute for Priestly Formation, otherwise known as I.P.F. It is a 10-week program that takes place in Omaha, NE on the campus of Creighton University. It is a program for seminarians and priests to come together and learn spirituality that leads to a deeper love for our Lord. Please continue to pray for me during the summer and the school year, and know of the great gratitude in my heart for your prayers for me. Know of my prayers for you as I keep on my journey to the priesthood. God bless, Mike Picard (Our own seminarian) Dear brothers and sisters, Greetings. I pray that this note finds you well. I would like to share with you a bit about what I have been doing in seminary and what I will be doing this summer. I enjoyed my first year of seminary. I completed philosophy studies and will begin theology studies this fall. Other studies this year included metaphysics, epistemology, Greek, Holy Scripture, and American Church history. Mundelein Seminary is a beautiful place to study and pray and I enjoy getting to know the seminarians and faculty. It was great to be around a group of young men with a common purpose: to grow in holiness and discern the Lord s Will. I look forward to continuing the journey with my them as we discover God s perfect plan for our lives. This summer I will attend the Institute for Priestly Formation in Omaha, Nebraska. This is a two-month program that teaches seminarians the spirituality of diocesan priests. We take classes that focus on methods of prayer, and we will complete a retreat modeled on the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola. Other focuses include apostolic outreach within the local community and fraternity with our brother seminarians. I have heard many good things about IPF, and I am looking forward to the summer. Thank you for your prayers for me and for all the ways that you support me. Please know of my prayers for you, in praise and gratitude to God for your generosity and sacrifice. With thanksgiving and best wishes for a blessed summer, I am Sincerely yours in Christ, Kyle Sladek (Our own seminarian) Dear Cathedral Parish, I would like to start this letter by thanking you for all of your prayers and support that you have offered me the past several years of my seminary formation. The past year was my first year of theology at St. Francis de Sales Seminary and was filled with many examples of God s love. The community at St. Francis is small, but it allows us to form authentic friendships and help each other out on the road to (God willing) ordination. This summer I am attending a program called the Rome Experience where we will start off with a silent retreat in Ars, France where the tomb of St. John Vianney, who is the patron saint of parish priests, is located. Then we will go to Rome to take classes on the spirituality of the priesthood, art and architecture. We will also have the opportunity to visit some of the sights while we are in the heart of the Church. I am very excited to be on such a program and learn more about the Universal Church. I will pray for all of the parishioners of Cathedral Parish at the tomb of our new St. Pope John Paul II. God bless, Adam Bradley (Our adopted seminarian)
