Second Sunday of Ordinary Time....January 18, 2009 Page Four A Family Perspective....In today s gospel Philip told Nathaniel Come and see. He didn t preach, he invited and Nathaniel became a disciple of Jesus. If our children SEE the excitement of our faith, that will be invitation enough. Words will not be necessary. Stewardship Message. In today s first reading, we hear Samuel respond eagerly, Here I am! each time the Lord calls him. May we, too, be listening for the call of God in our lives and be ready to say like the psalmist, Here am I, Lord; I come to do your will. Congratulations to The Incarnation Junior Varsity Boys, The Varsity Girls and The Junior Varsity Girls who all won their basketball games this past weekend! Keep up the hard work!! Fourth & Fifth grade boys & girls interested in becoming Altar Servers at Incarnation are invited to meet with Fr. Moran at 11am on Saturday, January 31st in the Church. Page Five Second Sunday of Ordinary Time.. January 18, 2009 Incarnation Men s Retreat, February 27 March 1st. Wives, Mothers, Sweethearts!!! Do you want your husband, son, or fiancé to be a better man in a matter of days? A weekend retreat will do it. Our parish men s retreat begins soon at Holy Family Retreat Center in West Hartford. Why other parishioners make the Retreat: Retreat is the only time that I can be reflective without interruptions. I leave with a greater appreciation of my blessings and the people in my life. Ken Mendoza. Recently there has been some damage to our church parking lot and railings. We ask all to use extreme caution when driving on church property, especially when Masses and church activities are in progress. We are trying to close out our 2008 Mass Book. If you have any Mass Offerings that you wish to make for 2008, please send them in a.s.a.p. Thank you so much! If you are receiving church envelopes from our envelope company in Buffalo, New York and are not using them, please notify Audrey at the rectory. Unused Church envelopes are an unnecessary expense for the Church. Thank you for your understanding! MARCH FOR LIFE...2009...January 22nd, in Washington, D.C., January 22nd marks the thirty sixth anniversary of the infamous Roe vs. Wade Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion-on-demand throughout all three trimesters of pregnancy. Since that date close to 50 million pre-born babies have been killed in our country. As members of the Body of Christ, we should take advantage of this opportunity to stand up for the sanctity of all human life, which is under attack in the current Culture of Death. The CT Right to Life Corp. will again provide bus transportations this year. The bus will leave West Hartford on January 21st. Call the number below for times. The marchers will attend Mass, visit their legislator s offices, attend the rally at the Mall, march down Constitution Ave. and up Capitol Hill to the Supreme Court building. The cost is $45.00 for the round trip. The fare is $20.00 for students under 18, who must be accompanied by an adult, and seminarians. For information or to make reservations for the trip, please call Jean Sipper, coordinator, at (860) 379-1543. There will be a March for Life in Connecticut on January 22nd at the State Capitol at 11:30am. Prior to that there will be a 9:30am Mass at Holy Trinity Church, 53 Capitol Avenue, followed by one hour of Adoration.

Page Six Second Sunday of Ordinary Time.. January 18, 2009 Are you being called to the Priesthood or Religious? THE LAMB OF GOD Behold the Lamb of God! We hear this phrase every Sunday at Mass, but there s a good chance that many Roman Catholics would not know who in the Bible originally spoke this phrase. Some may be surprised that it appears in only one of the four Gospels, and after it is spoken two times, it never appears again. It is John the Baptist who twice utters this phrase in the Gospel of John. In today s Gospel reading, John proclaims Jesus as the Lamb of God, and two of John s own disciples then follow Christ. A little bit later Andrew, who heard John and then followed Jesus, brings his brother Simon to be re-named Cephas, or Peter. A careful look at these Bible verses shows us the mission of everyone baptized into the Body of Christ: We must always proclaim our faith in Christ, so that others will follow him. Even though we do not know how the will of God might work through those we bring to Christ (could Andrew have known the destiny of his brother?), that is not the point. The point is that our ongoing mission as a church one, holy, catholic, and apostolic is to bring others to Christ. We do not seek attention, glory, or followers for ourselves, but only for the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.
