Oakland Baptist Church THE ACORN April 2016 Located at: 2965 Oakland Church Rd. Gum Spring, VA 23065 On the web at: www.oakland-baptist.com Office: 804-556-3550 Dear Church Family, Easter Celebrations are over and we are definitely headed into the Spring of the year. What a joy it is to see the signs of new life all around. It reminds us that God is at work renewing and reconciling all things to Himself. In fact, that is what the Easter Celebration is all about. The Resurrection is the stamp and guarantee that all things will be renewed and restored to life through the grace and steadfast love of God. We all live in the constant path that Jesus modeled for us life, death and resurrection. This month we will be in full swing with our Children s Consignment Ministry. You will find the dates and other information about this important ministry here in the monthly newsletter. However, let me make a few important comments about this event. First of all, this is a wonderful opportunity for us as a congregation to say that we care about children. This is a Children s ministry and children are our future. This is also a Consignment ministry which means that we work together with others in our community to make this happen. People, both in our church and in the community, benefit mutually in this event. It provides an opportunity for folks in the community to sale used items, while also providing affordable items to those who may need them, ultimately benefiting the mission work of Oakland Baptist Church. Yet, above all, this is a Ministry. It is an opportunity for us to reach out in the name and love of Christ hopefully drawing others to the life we have found in Christ. We hope you will let others know about this important ministry. And if you would like, you can be involved. We have many wonderful, dedicated members of Oakland who help plan and organize this event for which we are grateful. Yet, your help is always needed and appreciated. In this issue: Pastor s Pen 1 Articles 2 Newsletter / Bulletin Deadlines & Notes 2 Database changes Contact info 2 Anniversaries 3 Birthdays 3 Notes & Announcements 3-4 Assignments 5 Calendar of Events 5 Prayer Reminders 6 Many of you are already getting ready to plant your garden. As we move into the season for gardening, keep in mind that your soul is like a garden and needs tending as well. Being a part of the worship services, Sunday school, Wednesday evening dinners and Bible studies, along with other activities at Oakland provide an ongoing opportunity for us to tend the garden of our souls. Does the garden of your soul need some care? We are here to help you in any way we can to make sure the wheat grows more than the weeds in the garden of your soul. It is a joy to serve you and we trust God s richest blessings for you always and in all ways! Blessings, Randy & Betty 1
