Happy New Year to you and your family; may 2019 be a good year for each one. May God bless and keep you as we each continue our spiritual journey. Usually in my newsletters, I give a list of announcements or what has been accomplished in the village since the last newsletter. I would like to focus on the blessings of God for us individually and collectively. We are truly a blessed people; Connie and I are blessed in our leadership roles in the village. You have blessed us with your encouragement, prayers, constructive suggestions, and friendship; thank you for blessing us. God has blessed us first and foremost with the plan of salvation, --- the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, for, Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. (Romans 10:12b-13) Wesleyan Village is a retirement community for fellow Believers; to have the opportunity to live and mingle with people who are Christians is a blessing. We are blessed every day through family, friends, the beauty of the day, the fellowship of believers, a smile, a kiss, a hug, a kind word, a nap, God s Word, the ability to worship freely, and so much more. My limited words have only scratched the surface of the blessings we encounter each day. Praise be to God for his blessings. May 2019 be a year of blessing for you and your family. As the prophet Ezekiel noted, --- there will be showers of blessings. (34:26) May 2019 be a year full of unexpected blessings. Don Maness, President Wesleyan Village

A DISH OF ICE CREAM Comments made in the year of 1955 I ll tell you one thing, if things keep going the way they are, it s going to be impossible to buy a week s groceries for twenty dollars. In the days when an ice cream sundae cost much less, a 10 year old boy entered a hotel coffee shop and sat at a table. A waitress put a glass of water in front of him. How much is an ice cream sundae? 50 cents, replied the waitress. The little boy pulled his hand out of his pocket and studied a number of coins in it. How much is a dish of plain ice cream? he inquired. Some people were now waiting for a table and the waitress was a bit impatient. 35 cents, she said brusquely. The little boy again counted the coins. I ll have the plain ice cream, he said. The waitress brought the ice cream, put the bill on the table and walked away. The boy finished the ice cream, paid the cashier and departed. When the waitress came back, she began wiping down the table and then swallowed hard at what she saw. There, placed neatly beside the empty dish, were 15 cents her tip. Have you seen the news, cars coming out next year? It won t be long before $2000 will buy only a used car. If cigarettes keep going up in price I'm going to quit. A quarter pack is ridiculous. Did you hear the post office is thinking about charging a dime just to mail a letter? If they raise the minimum rate to $1.00 nobody will be able to hire outside help at the store. When I first started driving, who would have thought gas would someday cost twenty-nine cents a gallon. Guess we d be better off leaving the car in the garage. Did you see where some baseball players just signed a contract for seventy-five thousand dollars a year just to play ball? It wouldn t surprise me if some day they ll be making more than the president. I never thought I d see the day all our kitchen appliances would be electric. They are even making electric typewriters now. It s too bad things are so tough now a days, I see where a few married women are having to work to make ends meet.
