Altar flowers this week are in memory of DRAGO CVINTANOVICH COME SPEND AN HOUR WITH OUR LORD! Fridays FRIDAYS March 15 March 29 April 12 SATURDAY March 23 5:00 PM We are in need of adorers who can commit to one hour one day per week. Please consider spending an hour with the Lord. Times most needed are those posted here and in the chapel. Vocations Awareness Week Essay In the song, Temporary Home, Carrie Underwood gets to the heart of a very important question. What is our purpose and why are we here? Our goal in this life is to reach heaven. To understand our purpose, we only have to look at the Sign of the Cross to understand that we are here to know Him, to love Him, and to serve Him. Our vocation is the holy path of service that God is calling us to follow along the way. This is different from our occupation, which we have in order to support ourselves and our family. Our vocation determines how we share God s love with others. There are many ways to get to Heaven, and the holy path God has called us to, or our vocation, is a fast track for happiness. We are all called to live holy lives and become saints. Saint Augustine said, Nothing whatever pertaining to godliness and real holiness can be accomplished without grace. In order to be truly holy, we must have God in our lives as our guide. Daily prayer and His grace help us love Him and our neighbors and help us grow in holiness. Our conversion is ongoing and our vocation will allow us to develop our faith more deeply. There are three main vocations that we may follow. Though different, each one allows us to share God s love by serving others. In the vocation of marriage, spouses share God s love unselfishly with each other. A husband and wife are a reminder of the love that Jesus has for the Church. In the vocation of consecrated single life, God s love can be shared by volunteering in a church parish, being kind to neighbors, and helping charities. My uncle lives out this vocation beautifully. He never married, he attends Mass every day where he serves as an usher, and he has a very strong prayer life. In the vocation of religious life or priesthood, individuals are dedicated to a life of serving God and others. The process of discernment can be challenging. Choosing which path of vocation to follow can be difficult because it is not a decision we can make on our own. It is not just what I want, it is what God wants. We have to trust God in prayer and allow Him to reveal what is right for us. In the Bible, Mary is the perfect example of trusting God with her life s path. She said yes to marriage and raising God s son. Sometimes we are scared to follow what we are called to do, but like Mary, we must find the courage to say yes to God. Earth is just my temporary home. I want to go to Heaven when it is time to leave. Every day I must pray and ask God what I can do to be holy. Currently, I m being called to be a good student and a loving daughter. God blessed me with the gift of singing which has allowed me to serve God as a cantor at Masses and many other church functions. I believe that our gifts and talents are God s way of helping us to understand our Vocation. No matter what vocation I may follow later in life, I feel God is calling me to continue using my voice to share joy and inspire others. This was written by Leah Gilmore, one of our SCR 5th graders.

Our Guild s Care of the Homebound Committee ministers to these fellow parishioners by assisting them, within our area, with transporation to Mass or to the doctor, pharmacy, grocery, etc. If you have a need for this ministry (or if you are interested in serving on this committee), please call the Parish Center or Roy & Gail Daigle at 887-6706.
