INTROIT & THE LIGHTING OF THE CANDLES Symbolizing Christ s presence as the Light of the World. Please use this contemplative time to prepare yourself to encounter God in this time and place. CALL TO WORSHIP Around the world people gather to break bread and pour wine. We gather with them in heart and mind. Around the world the broken body is made whole. As part of that body we join in its unity. Around the world the Banquet of God is prepared for the table. We, who share in the banquet, come eagerly to be fed. Let us worship together, let us share God s bounty. *HYMN OF PRAISE Come, Christians, Join to Sing NO. 108 *PRAYER OF CONFESSION God of every people and nation, we confess that we have not lived as global citizens in your new realm of justice and peace. We build up dividing walls in the world. We contribute to division in the church. We ignore the suffering in distant nations and live in fear of our closest neighbors. Forgive us, God of grace. Pour out your Spirit of peace upon us, break down the dividing walls among us, and raise us up to be a holy temple- your temple of peace in the world- built on the cornerstone of Jesus Christ, in whose holy name we pray. Amen. *ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS *GLORIA PATRI NO. 623 Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. *CELEBRATION OF THE LORD S SUPPER WE LIFT OUR HEARTS TO GOD The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise. AFFIRMATION OF FAITH Who made Heaven and Earth? God is the creator of all that is. God commanded light to shine out of darkness, divided the sea and dry land, and created the vast universe. And God called it good. Why did God create humanity? God made us in God s image to live with one another in love. God gave us the breath of life and freedom to choose God s way. How is God active in the world? God promised God s self in covenant with Abraham and Sarah, told us God s purpose in commandments through Moses, and called for justice in the cry of prophets. Through long generations God has been faithful and kind to all God s children. Who is God-With-Us? God s Son, Jesus the Christ, is Emmanuel, which means, God with us. God sent God s only Son to live among us, sharing our joy and sorrow. Jesus told God s story, healed the sick, and was a friend of sinners. Obeying God, Jesus took up his cross and died that we might live. And now we praise you that he overcame death and is risen to rule the world. Who is the Holy Spirit? When Jesus ascended to heaven he sent his Spirit to comfort and guide all people closer to God s Will. Through prayer and discernment the Holy Spirit reveals God to us and makes God s will known to us. RESPONDING IN PRAISE Let us lift our hearts in joyful praise and let us join our voices with the choirs of angels as we say, Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest! RECEIVING THE ELEMENTS THE BREAD Jesus is the Bread of Life; all who come to him will never be hungry. THE WINE 1 The Cup of Salvation offers us new life in Christ Jesus our Lord and Savior. Please hold each element until all have been served, so that we may partake of the elements together, as one body unified under Christ. RESPONDING WITH PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD S PRAYER Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 1 Jesus and his disciples drank wine at the Last Supper. We use grape juice rather than wine out of our love for our brothers and sisters who cannot and should not drink wine.!
