June 22, 2018 As my year as Governor is now over, I take this opportunity to thank everyone for the fellowship, friendships and hospitality that Eileen and I enjoyed over this past year. In my new role of Immediate Past Governor, I look forward to working with Governor Larry and Lt. Governor Derm, as they embark on their new Gyro experience, at the helm... enjoy fellas! May 17, 1924 EDMONTON CROSSROADS May 18, 1957 EDMONTON July 29, 1921 LETHBRIDGE March 28, 1925 NELSON February 16, 1924 REGINA October 20, 1921 SHERWOOD PARK October 4, 1975 STAMPEDE CITY November 3, 1962 WALLACE, ID May 19, 1934 To Past Governor John, again, many thanks for your mentorship. To Michael Matei thank you for serving as the District Secretary-Treasurer. And last, but not least, thanks to my dear wife, Eileen, for your support! To All... many thanks for making my year an enjoyable one! WELCOME NEW MEMBERS In May, we had one (1) addition to our District Membership and that was the return of Bud Darough, to the Nelson Club... Welcome Back Bud! New Members are vital to our Association s existence, so I am delighted to report that there were 18 New or Returning Members who joined District VIII, this past year. So, congratulations to: Edmonton (5); Sherwood Park (4); Stampede City (4); Nelson (3); Regina (1) and Wallace (1). Unfortunately, due to attrition we had a net loss of 20 members; so, please keep those new members coming in! DISTRICT VIII ANNUAL CONVENTION For those who were unable to attend this year s District Convention, in Nelson, B.C. from June 7 10, 2018, there 128 Registered Delegates and for the Governor s Banquet there were 135 in attendance! Special thanks to our out of District attendees: Chris & Judy Randall (Victoria); Roger Lindley (Blacklake, CA); Henry & Nora Berumen, Larry & Alice Duba, and Lowell & Sharon Gist (Fresno). As a picture is worth a 1,000 words, I m sure you will be pleased and appreciate that I am doing this overview report, primarily in pictures; so enjoy! A Fraternity of Friendship

( : International President Dale Woodroffe gave Greetings and a brief report of what has been going on within International this past year. District Officer Reports were then given, followed by Club Delegate Reports. A Curl-A-Rama Report was given by IPG John Hodgson. Then, Michael Matei presented the District Financial Statements, and advised that District had a $35 surplus, versus a $2,663 budgeted deficit. Bruce Swanson Edmonton Club gave his presentation for the 2019 Convention, in Drumheller, and there was considerable interest, so it looks like it will be well attended; book your room early! Next up was Lt. Governor Larry Fenton who presented his 2018/19 Budget; and that was quickly approved. IPG John Hodgson then gave his Nominations and that too was quickly approved (Phew). Last but not least, the District Awards were presented: Bulletin Award Man Mile Award Membership Award Calgary Bruce Martin accepting Stampede City Jim Barrette accepting Edmonton David Winfield Accepting I must admit, my frequent reference to having a Sgt. @ Arms who would be assessing fines of $1 - $5 did allow the meeting to run smoothly. Still, if there had been a Sgt. @ Arms we probably would have collected $200+. ( :

Ladies Luncheon: Page 6 While I do not have any pictures showing that I was actually there, I was and had the opportunity to thank the Gyrettes and Gyro Spouses for all that they do to support Gyro; to acknowledge the recent 70 th Anniversary of the Calgary Gyrette Club and to encourage other Gyrette Clubs to let the Governor know when they have Special Anniversaries, etc.; and, then I introduced Larry Fenton as the Incoming Governor and Derm Jackman as the Incoming Lt. Governor. However, I do have some pictures of the ladies... Saturday afternoon the Nelson Brewing Company Tour: Bob Steed conducting the Tours The Tasters anxiously awaiting to be tasted!

And finally, the Governor s Banquet: Page 7 Special Presentations were made to John Rayson, Nelson Club, for his 50 years in Gyro: And to George Turner, Jim Todd, Gerald Townsend and George Coletti, Nelson Club, for their 60 years in Gyro; presented by Joe Vingo...

Page 8 At great expense, the Convention Committee decided to have a Fashion Show; here are but a few photos to document the event; do you know who the models are? And then the Installation of District Officers: Past Governor Peter Carter Governor Larry Fenton Lt. Governor Derm Jackman Secretary/Treasure Dave Jenner All in all, it was a great Convention, with great memories, renewed and new friendships; soooo, Kudos to the Nelson Club for a well-organized; well run; and very successful District Convention. It is not an easy task to have everything run smoothly; to have great meals; to have great entertainment; and to have everyone enjoy themselves, but, the Gyros and Spouses, of the Gyro Club of Nelson, DID IT! Special thanks to Convention Chair Ray Ballan, Co-chair Joe Vingo, and everyone on your Committee for a job well done! Everyone s attention to details allowed me, as Governor, to enjoy myself. UPCOMING CONVENTION International is in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin: June 25 29, 2018; In closing, to the Gyros, Gyrettes, and Spouses, of District VIII... THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES! Yours in Gyro, Peter A. Carter Governor District VIII
