And when Thou didst raise the dead from beneath the earth, all the powers of Heaven did cry aloud unto Thee: O Christ, Thou giver of life, glory to Thee. APOLYTIKION OF ST. JOHN CHRYSOSTOM IN TONE EIGHT Grace shining forth from thy mouth like fire hath enlightened the universe, and disclosed to the world treasures of uncovetousness, and shown us the heights of humility. But as thou dost instruct us by thy words, O Father John Chrysostom, intercede with the Word, Christ our God, to save our souls. Now sing the apolytikion of the patron saint or feast of the temple. KONTAKION OF THE PRESENTATION OF CHRIST IN TONE ONE Thou, O Christ God, Who by Thy Birth, didst sanctify the Virgin s womb, and, as is meet, didst bless Simeon s arms, and didst also come to save us; preserve Thy fold in wars, and confirm them whom Thou didst love, for Thou alone art the Lover of mankind.

THE EPISTLE (For St. John Chrysostom) My mouth shall speak of wisdom; and the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding. Hear this, all ye people. The Reading from the Epistle of St. Paul to the Hebrews. (7:26-8:2) Brethren, it was fitting that we should have such a High Priest, holy, blameless, unstained, separated from sinners, exalted above the heavens. He has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, first for his own sins and then for those of the people; He did this once for all when He offered up Himself. Indeed, the law appoints men in their weakness as high priests, but the word of the oath, which came later than the law, appoints a Son Who has been made perfect forever. Now the point in what we are saying is this: we have such a High Priest, one Who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven, a minister in the sanctuary and the true tent which is set up not by man but by the Lord. THE GOSPEL (For the Fifteenth Sunday of Luke Zacchaeus Sunday ) The Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St. Luke. (19:1-10) At that time, Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through. And there was a man named Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector, and rich. And he sought to see Who Jesus was, but could not, on account of the crowd, because he was small of stature. So he ran on ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see Jesus, for He was to pass that way. And when Jesus came to the place, He looked up and said to him, Zacchaeus, make haste and come down; for I must stay at your house today. So he made haste and came down, and received Him joyfully. And when they saw it they all murmured, He has gone in to be the guest of a man who is a sinner. And Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord, Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have defrauded anyone of anything, I restore it fourfold. And Jesus said to him, Today salvation has come to this house, since he also is a son of Abraham; for the Son of man came to seek and to save the lost. Thank you to our sponsors: Georgette Salloum The Mamari Family May Matthew s memory be eternal Matthew Steven Sallit The Sallit Family respectfully welcomes the St. George Church family to their home Today, January 27, 2-3 p.m. 1032 Pennsylvania St., Whitehall, PA 18052 Orthodox thought for the day When you are sick, you feel weak and feeble, and your face is pale; you are incapable of performing your normal tasks, and people remark how ill you appear. So you go to the doctor. What do you want from him? You say you want some medicine to cure your sickness. But if the cause of your sickness was cured, and you remained feeble and pale, would you be satisfied? Of course not. the truth is, a person goes to the doctor for relief of the symptoms of disease, not disease itself. The doctor, on the other hand, knows that the symptoms cannot be relieved unless their cause is overcome. Similarly, when we declare ourselves to be disciples of Christ, we claim tht we want Him to cure our spiritual and moral disease. Yet, in truth, we want Him to relieve the stmptoms such as misery, discontent, despair, and so on. Jesus, by contrast, knows that He cannot relieve these symptoms unless He overcomes their deep, inner cause. This is where the problems arise. While we would like to be rid of the symptoms, we stubbornly resist the efforts of Jesus to penetrate our souls. We do not want our deep set feelings and attitudes to be changed. But only when we truly open our souls to the transforming grace of God will the symptoms of spiritual disease begin to disappear. St. John Chrysostom

This Ordination service will be held Sunday, March 3. Participation in our Choir at the Ordination will be dependent on several factors: First, knowledge and competence of the music in coordination with the choir. I may do things differently then how someone else has done it in the past or at another church, so therefore just knowing the music will not be adequate. You will need to know how we are singing the music. This means that if someone shows up to sing and has never rehearsed with us they will be asked to not sing. This is done so that we will have beautiful music as Fr. Anthony has asked. It is done so that there isn t chaos during the Liturgy. If you have friends that may be interested in singing please let them know that they must talk with me and they will need to attend rehearsals. Secondly, if there is a problem with attending rehearsals please speak with me. We may be able to work out another time to meet. I may even be able to meet individually with someone if there are extenuating circumstances that merit it. Gail Ortner Phone: (610) 349-6948 Email: gortner1@me.com We will continue with Sunday rehearsals. I would like to add in every Monday night between now and March 3, 2019 so that we have adequate time to prepare and perfect our music. Thank you so much for your prayers, practice, and support in our ministry at church.
