We reached positive growth in membership for the first time in years. It is a time to celebrate a great achievement but lets not get to complacent. We are at the start of a new year and we need to do better than we did the year before. So make sure you are looking to get your friends in and encourage the new members to get their friends in as well. Remember that the jurisdiction is willing to help in whatever way possible to see that DeMolay is always growing. Good Luck and lets make sure that we have a great year. SCJ DEPUTY MASTER COUNCILOR Hello Everyone! I hope everyone had a great Holiday season! For those of you who don t know, the Jurisdiction reached positive growth for the first time in many years. Thank you all very much for helping and congratulations to all. I would like to personally thank all who attended the Video Game tournament and Ritual Competition and I hope you all had a great time. Tony and I are looking forward to the new year and we believe that we can do even better than last year. Our goal for this year is to get one more member in than last year and with your help I know we can do it! SCJ SWEETHEART SCJ DeMolay, Hello everyone! I hope everyone enjoyed their Winter Break, and I hope everyone is looking forward to this brand new year. There a bunch of awesome events coming up including District Sweetheart Balls, and I hope to see every one there! I hope to see you guys soon and if you guys would like to tell me about something coming up in your chapter, feel free to email me: sweetheart@scjdemolay.org. XOXO Jessica Stibich SCJ Sweetheart 06-07

Page 2 District Discussion February 2007 ICD President: Kevin Jeanson Vice Presidents: Brandon Mann J.P. Bezerra Sweetheart: Nicole Porenteau Princess: Glenna Peterson Hey guys and girls! It s a new year and we are off to a great start. I am so stoked that we as a jurisdiction made positive growth. It was inevitable, so I wasn t worried. After bowling my brains out at SCJ Bowling, I am ready for a good year. We have a few activities coming up in the district which will definitely be way rad. On the 23 rd of January, we have our District Meeting at Santa Ana, at 7:30. Then on the 3 rd of February, we have ICD/Oasis Broomball, all the info is on the website, so check it out. The next day, the 4 th, Yorba Linda Chapter is having a Super Bowl XLI party, this is and should be fun. The next activity is the Valentine s Day Dance. I have 2 possible locations, Yorba Linda Masonic Center, or Huntington Beach Lodge. I d like your input on this event, I could get either place no sweat, but I want you guys to have some say in the decision. Your suggestions can always go to my e-mail address, crazykj7@adelphia.net. After that, it is the District Meeting on the 21 st, and volleyball on the 24 th. March has some important dates also. On the 4 th, is the District Meeting and Basketball. Then on the 10 th, is the ICD Auction. This is one of or most important events of the year, so bring auctionable items and yourself for dinner. The next day is the Second Ever ICD Photo Scavenger Hunt. This should be fun, again. These next months are going to be busy and fun. I hope to see you all at these events, and I hope to get your suggestions about the dance. (Say this out loud) Everything is cooler in ICD. O-SNAP!! Kevin Jeanson ICD President IED President: Chris Oaks Vice Presidents: James Contreras Sweetheart: Diana La Madrid Princess: Sara Johnson After a great year marking strong membership growth, Inland Empire District and SCJ want to keep with the fun with great events coming. In the IE, we are beginning with the car wash and movie day in February. The March meeting will consist of a video game tournament and information day for all of the new members. IED basketball will follow on the thirty-first. SCJ Devotional day is on the horizon, an amazing day of fun. Do not forget about membership class the day before Devo day. After great showing from all of the degree teams used during our visitations I think it is safe to say ritual in the IE is strong and all of its members should be proud. The Inland Empire grew in more ways then membership this last year, as has SCJ, with many fun activities; let us make this an even greater year. Fraternally, Chris Oaks IED President

The Preceptor Page 3 Oasis President: Jeremy Spurley Vice Presidents: Tony Baldinelli Walter Pijeaux My Brothers in SCJ, With the passing of one year and the beginning of a new one comes plenty of optimism. As we look back on 2006 we can say that we had a great year in SCJ. We are number three in the world in membership and we achieved positive growth. Now that 2007 is here we need to keep on pressing forward. Oasis District will do its part. We will continue to show what it means to be a brother tried and true by continuing our unity efforts. We will continue to help grow this wonderful organization that we all care about so strongly. We will continue our efforts in assisting the next generation of our leaders to learn what it takes to make this organization and this world strong. We will do all of this and more in a positive manner that will bring us the success and encouragement of all right thinking men. I encourage all of the members to get out there and show how we do it here in Oasis and make 2007 a year to remember. With Brotherhood, Jeremy Spurley Oasis President 2006-2007 My Brothers in SCJ, SPD President: Max Shoemaker Vice Presidents: Daniel Downs Zack Pressey Sweetheart: Cassie Sheffield Princess: Colleen Hughes We finally reached positive growth!!! I congratulate you guys and all the chapters who helped us achieve this. But don't think it is over. We should all do our best to keep it up and reach positive growth again. I am very proud to say that everything is looking good in SPD, we have three new chapters on the way to quorum. Valley Hills chapter has 4 members to go to start their own meetings. Ramona chapter has recently adopted the name Gerald R. Ford Chapter and will be up and running soon. Chula Vista has recently moved to National City and we are looking into starting that chapter back up. We hope to see you at some of our upcoming events!! Yours truly, Max Shoemaker SPD President 06-07

Well, I am here to let you know. We recently finished number 3 in the world for membership. To our surprise we finished 6 members behind Missouri and 4 behind Texas. Missouri initiated around 70 new members in the month of December! We finished with 184 new boys which put us at positive growth for the year! Thank you all so much for your help! We also just held our annual Jurisdiction Bowling and had a great turn out! Congratulations to Walt Disney Chapter who took first place and Liberal Arts who took 2nd. Thank you to all who attended and I hope you had a great time! For those of you who attended the Holiday Dance, I am sure you had a fantastic time and for those of you who didn t, you missed out on a tremendous event. We had a huge turnout especially from our Job Daughters and Rainbow girls. Currently SCJ is looking at opening five new chapters! With your help we can continue to grow and help others experience DeMolay. Well, that s what is going on and I hope you all are ready for the new year!

We achieved positive membership growth for the first time in almost a decade. We have opened and re-opened chapters because Masonic lodges across our jurisdiction have seen your good work and have requested that this work be continued in their own neighborhood. There are advisors who have chosen, for the good of the order, to attend advanced advisor training. Even those who have been around our fine order for decades have found value in this program and rededicated themselves to this order by their attendance. After all, we all have room to improve. We are all striving to make DeMolay in Southern California better. But membership in DeMolay is advanced membership. It is not the mere attend and play kind of membership. It is involved, responsible, and active membership. It is roll up your sleeves, dirt under your fingernails, tired from the lifting membership. And because of this, it is also one of the most rewarding experiences of your life both as a member and as an advisor. There is still more to be done and that work will be hard at times. But your officers are doing their best to make sure it is fun, too. Dedication to a worthwhile endeavor takes effort over time not over moments. To paraphrase Thomas Payne, That which is achieved easily is often held cheap. What we have achieved has not been easy. But it is easy to remain dedicated to what DeMolay teaches. The success we have seen this past year is the reward for your effort and the future continues to get brighter with each step we take to make it so. -Dad James Barr

Page 6 February 2007 EXECUTIVE OFFICER FROM THE E.O. CONGRATULATIONS SCJ!! You guys did it and you brought in 184 new members and made positive growth for 2006. I don t know exactly how long ago SCJ had positive growth, but it was MANY years (and several Eon s) ago. Thank you for all the hard work. One of the ideas for an SCJ celebration was a day at the Quakes baseball stadium, with Tony possibly throwing out the first pitch. If you, your chapter, or your District have other ideas, please let me know. I am sorry flying to Rome for dinner is a little over the top. The bad news is that we did not finish in first place world-wide. Missouri had 190 new members, and our old nemesis Texas finished with 188. So we were third, but we beat NOR CAL, so they can t rank on us about that any longer. My apologies to Matt Pinzon, Joe Valenzuela, and Sean Fertig. I know you guys were looking forward to throwing pies in my face. As you remember, though, both criteria (positive growth and first place) needed to exist for that to happen. Maybe in 2007!?!! We are off to a good start for 2007. IED has had an initiation and submitted the Form 10 already. Our goal for this year is 185 (one more than last year). We will reach positive growth at 141. I know the Jurisdiction can achieve 185 and you can reach whatever number you want. Let me know how I can help you reach that goal. Dad Jeanson
