October 17, 2018 Volume 55, Issue 42 Travis Baptist Messenger While preaching on 2 Corinthians 8, the minister made note of the words in verse 5:..but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then by the will of God to us. To emphasize the point that God wants YOU before He wants your money, he asked an usher to bring an offering plate. Laying the plate on the floor, he then stood in it. His point was clear: before we give our money to the Lord, we must give ourselves to Him. Think about this the next time the plate comes around what part of your life do you need to place in the plate? Yes, money should be on that list, but what about your goals, your job, your major in college, you dating/married life? As the plate comes down your aisle next time, make it an act of worship by telling Him what He can expect from you. Remember, He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully (2 Cor. 9:6). Oct. This lighting system is an ADA requirement. Please be aware that someone with a disability might have trouble reaching the switch, let alone finding it in a darkened room. The LED lights use very little energy so it does not save us money by turning off the restroom lights. Your cooperation is appreciated.

For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, And wither as the green herb. Trust in the LORD, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. Delight yourself also in the LORD, And He shall give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass. This study, taught by Cindy Villarreal, examines the Christmas story in detail, emphasizing how God chose each individual in the Christmas story for a specific purpose. Joseph leads his family with selfless faithfulness, as Mary follows obediently God s plan for her life, and as shepherds struggle with doubt as they wonder...could this really be their Savior? By Pastor Kyle Idleman. Starts Sunday, November 4 at 9:30 am. Meets in the B-Wing. Please RSVP to the office to receive your study guide.

What is Trunk or Treat? This is a fantastic and fun opportunity to get to know our neighbors and have them come to the church grounds in a non-intimidating way. We will provide a great evening, with your help, and they will leave with happy memories, goodies and treats, and a pocket full of information. We will share Jesus Christ with them through Gospel tracts and information about our church. We hope to let everyone know about Christ by serving our neighbors and representing Him at our Trunk or Treat celebration. We will be providing an alternate trick or treat experience to the children of our neighborhood. Our church street (Travis) will be blocked off and made a safe place filled with decorated trunks of vehicles and we will be handing out goodies and tracts (some candy will be provided). There are great trunk or treat ideas on the internet if you are stuck for ideas. Please, no overtly scary or satanic images or decorations. We will have the block party trailer from CCBA, which includes bounce houses, outdoor games, popcorn and more! 4:30pm 5:45pm 6:00pm 8:00pm 8:15pm Set-up and vehicles arriving Vehicles in place Pass out candy and tracts, bounce house/games open Bounce house/games close Clean up grounds, put away party trailer items October is Please honor Pastor David and Pastor Stephen during pastor appreciation month (October) by contributing to the appreciation bonus or taking them to lunch. Dear Church family: It is that time of the year again for Operation Christmas Child. Operation Christmas Child is a project of the Samaritan s Purse that distributes millions of shoeboxes filled with items for boys and girls in over 100 different countries in the world. It is a great way for all of us to celebrate the birth of our Savior by giving tangible items to needy children. The followings are ways you may participate: Be a prayer warrior for the impact of this project, so that the message of God s love and salvation is preached to many children around the world. The prayer guide leaflets are provided on the Operation Christmas Child table in the foyer area or by visiting this website: https://www.samaritanspurse.org/operation-christmas-child/ prayer-network/ Picking up the wrapped shoebox from the foyer and fill it with suggested items for boys and/or girls. This year s deadline for Operation Christmas Child shoebox collection is Sunday, November 11 th, 2018. Contributing to the shipping cost of the shoeboxes. It is $9.00 per shoebox. You can either contribute through Travis Baptist Church and designate it to Operation Christmas Child, or give it directly to Samaritan s Purse (the gift envelops are available at the table in the foyer area). If you would like to know where your donated shoebox is going to, you may donate the shipping cost online (http:// www.samaritanspurse.org/operation-christmas-child/follow-your-box/) to get the printed label with tracking barcode. Help with pre-packing assemblies (school supplies, hygiene items). We plan to meet on Sunday, October 21 st at 3:30pm. Help with Children and Youth Shopping Trip to Dollar Tree. Meeting at Travis Baptist back porch at 9:30am on Saturday, October 27 th, before leaving to the Dollar Tree. Checking and completing the collected shoeboxes. We plan to meet on Sundays, Nov. 4 th and Nov. 11 th at 3:30pm. Transport the collected shoeboxes to Second Baptist Church on Sunday, Nov. 18 th. Meeting at Travis Baptist sanctuary at 4:00pm. For more questions, please contact Laura Lee Davis at (979)575-7621 or (361)961-7149 or Ltjondrowardojo@gmail.com. Thank you and may God bless you all. Note: This year, we will have an opportunity to pack special shoeboxes for children in countries that are hostile to Christianity. The packing guidelines are much more restricted to protect the delivery of these special shoeboxes and to protect the Christians in these countries. If you are interested to pack the shoeboxes to these restricted countries, please contact Laura Lee at the number or email address above. Thank you.
