Sowing Thy Seed with Joy! Oct 14, 2015 Hymns: 42, 360, 150 The Bible Gen. 33:11 (to ;) Take, I pray thee, my blessing that is brought to thee; Ps. 126:6 (to forth), 6 bearing He that goeth forth bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him. Eccl. 11:6 (English Standard Version) In the morning sow your seed, and at evening for you do not know which will prosper, this or that, or whether both alike will be good. Matt. 13:34 these (to ;) These things spake Jesus unto the multitude in parables; Matt. 13:31 saying, 32 Saying, The kingdom of heaven is like to a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field: Which indeed is the least of all seeds: but when it is grown, it is the greatest among herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in the branches thereof. Matt. 13:3-5 (to 1st :), 6-8, 10, 11, 13, 16-20 (to and), 20 with, 21 (to hath), 21 not (to but), 21-23 when And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow; And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up: Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away. And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them: But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold. And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables? He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand. But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear. For verily I say unto you, That many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear and have not heard them. Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower. When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side. But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and with joy receiveth it; Yet hath not root in himself, but when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended. He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful. But he
that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. John 4:34 (to 1st,), 35, 36 2nd that Jesus saith unto them, Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest. that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together. John 8:31 (to 1st,), 32 ye Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. Matt. 19:12 He He that is able to receive it, let him receive it. Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy SH 272:6-7 (to ;) In the soil of an honest and good heart the seed must be sown; SH 570:14-18, 23-24 Millions of unprejudiced minds simple seekers for Truth, weary wanderers, athirst in the desert are waiting and watching for rest and drink. Give them a cup of cold water in Christ s name, and never fear the consequences. Those ready for the blessing you impart will give thanks. SH 436:11-12 Giving a cup of cold water in Christ s name, is a Christian service. SH 518:15-19, 21 The rich in spirit help the poor in one grand brotherhood, all having the same Principle, or Father; and blessed is that man who seeth his brother s need and supplieth it, seeking his own in another s good. All the varied expressions of God reflect health, holiness, immortality infinite Life, Truth, and Love. SH xi:22; xii:23 When God called the author to proclaim His Gospel to this age, there came also the charge to plant and water His vineyard. In the spirit of Christ s charity, as one who hopeth all things, endureth all things, and is joyful to bear consolation to the sorrowing and healing to the sick, she commits these pages to honest seekers for Truth. SH x:22-27, 15-17 By thousands of well-authenticated cases of healing, she and her students have proved the worth of her teachings. The divine Principle of healing is proved in the personal experience of any sincere seeker of Truth. Its purpose is good, and its practice is safer and more potent than that of any other sanitary method. The unbiased Christian thought is soonest touched by Truth, and convinced of it.
SH 254:10-12 When we wait patiently on God and seek Truth righteously, He directs our path. SH 238:19-21 Truth often remains unsought, until we seek this remedy for human woe because we suffer severely from error. SH 286:12-15 Physical causation was put aside from first to last by this original man, Jesus. He knew that the divine Principle, Love, creates and governs all that is real. SH 285:32-3 It is essential to understand, instead of believe, what relates most nearly to the happiness of being. To seek Truth through belief in a human doctrine is not to understand the infinite. SH 233:1 Every day makes its demands upon us for higher proofs rather than professions of Christian power. These proofs consist solely in the destruction of sin, sickness, and death by the power of Spirit, as Jesus destroyed them. This is an element of progress, and progress is the law of God, whose law demands of us only what we can certainly fulfil. SH 285:23-31 By interpreting God as a corporeal Saviour but not as the saving Principle, or divine Love, we shall continue to seek salvation through pardon and not through reform, and resort to matter instead of Spirit for the cure of the sick. As mortals reach, through knowledge of Christian Science, a higher sense, they will seek to learn, not from matter, but from the divine Principle, God, how to demonstrate the Christ, Truth, as the healing and saving power. SH 270:31-5, 7 The life of Christ Jesus was not miraculous, but it was indigenous to his spirituality, the good soil wherein the seed of Truth springs up and bears much fruit. Christ s Christianity is the chain of scientific being reappearing in all ages, maintaining its obvious correspondence with the Scriptures and uniting all periods in the design of God. Jesus instructed his disciples whereby to heal the sick through Mind instead of matter. He knew that the philosophy, Science, and proof of Christianity were in Truth, casting out all inharmony. SH 239:16, 25-27 To ascertain our progress, we must learn where our affections are placed and whom we acknowledge and obey as God. If divine Love is becoming nearer, dearer, and more real to us, matter is then submitting to Spirit. The objects we pursue and the spirit we manifest reveal our standpoint, and show what we are winning. If action proceeds from the divine Mind, action is harmonious. SH 136:1-6, 9-10 (to.), 32-3 (to ;), 10-11, 20-21 Christ Jesus established his church and maintained his mission on a spiritual foundation of Christ-healing. He taught his followers that his religion had a divine Principle, which would cast out error and heal both the sick and the sinning. He claimed no intelligence, action, nor life separate from God.
The question then as now was, How did Jesus heal the sick? His answer to this question the world rejected. Jesus patiently persisted in teaching and demonstrating the truth of being. His students saw this power of Truth heal the sick, cast out evil, raise the dead; Who or what is it that is able to do the work, so mysterious to the popular mind? Christ, the spirit of God, of Truth, Life, and Love, which heals mentally. SH 420:17-24 The fact that Truth overcomes both disease and sin reassures depressed hope. It imparts a healthy stimulus to the body, and regulates the system. It increases or diminishes the action, as the case may require, better than any drug, alterative, or tonic. Mind is the natural stimulus of the body, but erroneous belief, taken at its best, is not promotive of health or happiness. SH 447:14-16 The recuperative action of the system, when mentally sustained by Truth, goes on naturally. SH 174:20 Truth Truth is revealed. It needs only to be practised. SH 46:10 It is revealed to the receptive heart, and is again seen casting out evil and healing the sick. SH 323:19-24 When the sick or the sinning awake to realize their need of what they have not, they will be receptive of divine Science, which gravitates towards Soul and away from material sense, removes thought from the body, and elevates even mortal mind to the contemplation of something better than disease or sin. SH 322:26-30, 31-16 The sharp experiences of belief in the supposititious life of matter, as well as our disappointments and ceaseless woes, turn us like tired children to the arms of divine Love. Then we begin to learn Life in divine Science. It is easier to desire Truth than to rid one s self of error. Mortals may seek the understanding of Christian Science, but they will not be able to glean from Christian Science the facts of being without striving for them. This strife consists in the endeavor to forsake error of every kind and to possess no other consciousness but good. Through the wholesome chastisements of Love, we are helped onward in the march towards righteousness, peace, and purity, which are the landmarks of Science. Beholding the infinite tasks of truth, we pause, wait on God. Then we push onward, until boundless thought walks enraptured, and conception unconfined is winged to reach the divine glory. In order to apprehend more, we must put into practice what we already know. We must recollect that Truth is demonstrable when understood, and that good is not understood until demonstrated.
SH 236:25-29 Children are more tractable than adults, and learn more readily to love the simple verities that will make them happy and good. Jesus loved little children because of their freedom from wrong and their receptiveness of right. SH 237:1-20 A little girl, who had occasionally listened to my explanations, badly wounded her finger. She seemed not to notice it. On being questioned about it she answered ingenuously, There is no sensation in matter. Bounding off with laughing eyes, she presently added, Mamma, my finger is not a bit sore. It might have been months or years before her parents would have laid aside their drugs, or reached the mental height their little daughter so naturally attained. The more stubborn beliefs and theories of parents often choke the good seed in the minds of themselves and their offspring. Superstition, like the fowls of the air, snatches away the good seed before it has sprouted. Children should be taught the Truth-cure, Christian Science, among their first lessons, and kept from discussing or entertaining theories or thoughts about sickness. To prevent the experience of error and its sufferings, keep out of the minds of your children either sinful or diseased thoughts. SH 323:32-2 Willingness to become as a little child and to leave the old for the new, renders thought receptive of the advanced idea. SH 66:11 Spiritual development germinates not from seed sown in the soil of material hopes, but when these decay, Love propagates anew the higher joys of Spirit, which have no taint of earth. Each successive stage of experience unfolds new views of divine goodness and love. SH 361:25-28 A germ of infinite Truth, though least in the kingdom of heaven, is the higher hope on earth, but it will be rejected and reviled until God prepares the soil for the seed. SH 271:20-22, 26-30 Our Master said, But the Comforter... shall teach you all things. When the Science of Christianity appears, it will lead you into all truth. Those, who are willing to leave their nets or to cast them on the right side for Truth, have the opportunity now, as aforetime, to learn and to practise Christian healing. The Scriptures contain it. The spiritual import of the Word imparts this power. SH vii:1-2 To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings.
