Pastor s Pause: Rev. Bonnie Shively What s New? Before the mountains were born, before you birthed the earth and the inhabited world - from forever in the past to forever in the future, you are God. - Psalm 90:2 (CEB) We have said good-by to 2016 and rung in the new year of 2017. This means getting out a new and fresh calendar, and posting it in a prominent place. Each January, we seem to think that we have been given a clean slate. What s your new year s resolution? is a question that many people ask of one another at this time of year. Many of you are making that list - to stop smoking, to start exercising, to lose 10 pounds, etc. Does your list of resolutions ever include things like - do daily devotions, spend more time in prayer, read the Bible each day, practice random acts of kindness each day, etc. As we look at the many ways we can improve our physical health, let us keep in mind the need to also improve our spiritual health. I am not one who usually makes a big deal about New Year s resolutions. However, last year I made a resolution to be more intentional about my devotional time. To help me with that, I used Jesus Calling: Enjoying Peace in His Presence by Sarah Young. And while, I did improve on the time I spend in devotions, I recognize that there are still those times when I need to truly listen for Jesus Calling. God has a plan for each one of us in this new year of 2017. Let s keep our mind, body, and soul open to the that plan. And, let us respond mightily and boldly when we are called. Blessings, Pastor Bonnie You're Invited! Parsonage Open House Sunday, January 1st 1:00-4:00PM Come by for a few minutes or stay a little longer as we welcome in 2017! 2
Health Tip Tips For a Longer Life Make friends. Studies show a clear link between social ties and long life. Have a prayer partner. Choose friends wisely. Friends' habits rub off on you; e.g., obesity, smoking. Embrace the siesta. People who nap are 37% less likely to die from heart disease. Upcoming Events Confirmation - An opportunity for youth to confirm their faith as they consider becoming members of the church. Contact Pastor Bonnie or Ms. Rebecca for more information. Church Leadership Training led by Pastor Bonnie will be held on Saturday, January 21 from 9:30am-12noon. All committees are asked to have someone present. For more information, contact the church office. On Sunday, January 22nd we will be recognizing church leaders at both services. St. Paul's Gatherings - Pastor Bonnie is looking for ways to have conversations with the St. Paul's family. This helps us get to know one another better as we share thoughts, ideas, history and a vision for the future. We are looking for people to host these gatherings in their homes or if you are unable to open up your home, perhaps you might consider hosting here at the church. For more information or to be a host, please contact Pastor Bonnie. 7
