BBC Update Baptism Service Bible Baptist was privileged to witness the baptism of two recent converts to Christ, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Mitchell on January 15, 2017. Pray for Bob and Cathy Mitchell as they begin their new lives in Christ of sanctification and service in Bible Baptist. Baptism by immersion is one of two church ordinances. Baptism Dr. Thomas Strouse places the repentant sinner who has trusted Christ into the assembly. It is the ordained means by which God places saints into the church, as Scripture states, saying, But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him (I Cor. 12:18). Baptism is the first act of obedience for the new convert and should occur shortly after salvation. Again, Scripture states, saying, Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls (Acts 2:41) and Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved (Acts 2:47). Devotional Corner 2 Devotional Corner Luke 21:34: And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and Dr. Caswell A. Reeves cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares. God is concerned about the condition of our hearts. It can truthfully be said, as our heart goes, so goes our life. The care of the heart is important,...for out of it are the issues of life. (Prov.4:23). The care of our heart is important, because it ultimately reveals who we are:...as he thinketh in his heart, so is he. (Prov.23:7). The care of the heart is important because of our speech,... for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. (Mat.12:24). God warns the heart can be overcharged. The word overcharge is the Greek word baroono which means burden and it comes from another Greek word barooce which means weighty, burdensome, grave. God warns of two areas that can act as a weight or stress upon the heart to burden it to a point in which it causes your life not to be ready for the Lord. Those areas are 1) personal pleasures that are more important to you than serving the Lord, and 2) personal responsibilities that have arrested your time and talents away from the Lord. ready.... I am now ready to be offered,... I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: (2 Tim.4:6-7). Christian, guard your heart and be ready. -CAR Quotes From the Past: Samuel Adams Early American Founding Father 1722-1803 Samuel Adams Our contest is not only whether we ourselves shall be free, but whether there shall be left to mankind an asylum on earth for civil and religious liberty. Devotional For Women Grow in Grace Read Mark 10:46-52 Mark 10:52 And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way. (emphasis added) Reflection: When you have tasted the new life that Jesus offers, it would be impossible to desire to go back to your old ways. It would be like the blind begger Bartimaeus, who never saw a sunset, who never saw a bird fly, who never saw the faces of those he loved... receiving his sight...and then wanting to go back to his blindness. Can you imagine that? Is that possible once you have tasted salvation? He fell in love with His new found sight and we fall in love with our new found Saviour. Jesus said in Luke 5:36, And he spake also a parable unto them; No man putteth a piece of a new garment upon an old; if otherwise, then both the new maketh a rent, and the piece that was taken out of the new agreeth not with the old. Those that have tasted the new birth of Jesus Christ inevitably follow Him in the way as Bartimaeus did. Hagglund Visit Challenge: Trusting Jesus requires faith. Are you ready to turn from sin and place your faith in a risen Saviour? Are you following Him in His way or in your way? Where do we find His way? Please contact Elenas6259@gmail. com if you would like to receive Grow in Grace each morning through email. Also, A Complimentary Grow in Grace 12 Week Devotional Book is available upon request. Grow in Grace for Women 7 3 Ladies Fellowship Ladies Fellowship Bible Baptist will host the annual Bible Baptist Ladies Fellowship with Mrs. Mandy Breeden, wife of Pastor Greg Breeden of Northside Baptist in Windham, ME, giving her testimony on March 25, 2017 (10 AM to 1 PM). Mrs. Dorothy Vassar s Funeral Mrs. Dorothy Vassar On Saturday January 7, 2017, Bible Baptist member Mrs. Dorothy Vassar was laid to rest in Middletown, CT. The funeral and grave site services had many family members and Bible Baptist members in attendance to hear loved ones eulogize Mrs. Vassar s life in Christ. Mrs. Vassar passed into the presence of the Lord on December 15, 2016 after a brief illness. She and her husband Bill had been married for over seventy-five years. Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints (Ps. 116:15). Wedding 4 Wedding In spite of a heavy snowstorm, the wedding of groom Corporal David Slaughter and bride Miss Serena Nelson occurred on Saturday January 7, 2017 in Ashford, CT. The couple united in holy matrimony before many witnesses, as Pastor Thomas Strouse officiated in the proceedings. Recognizing the divine institution of marriage as outlined in Gen. 2:24 as leaving, cleaving, and weaving, the couple vowed to each other and before the Lord and attending congregation their perpetual commitment of marital unity. Please pray for Mr. and Mrs. David Slaughter as they begin their journey together serving the Lord Jesus Christ.
