A MESSAGE FROM THE COMMITTEE March and April were filled with events and festivals. Starting with Maha Shivratri celebration on the auspicious day of March 6, Pu Shastriji along with more than 100 devotees performed the Shiva Puja, and Rudrabhisheka in invoking the blessings of Lord Shiva. Over 350 devotees joined to celebrate Maha Shivratri on March 8th. Usha Bhargave sang devotional songs on a stage flanked by blue curtains, courtesy of Mukul & Neelima Parikh. Devotees had a rare treat when they were taken by Mukul to a vicarious Kailash Yatra with his travelogue to the majestic and mythical abode of Lord Shiva. Holi was celebrated on March 23. The day was filled with a variety of cultural items put together by Sunday school students and teachers. Befitting the occasion, devotees had a good time playing the colorful Dhuletti. The month concluded with a presentation of Vedic Mathematics by V. Unkalkar, a visiting scholar from India. April was also a busy month humming with activities. Early in the month there was Gudi Padva, and visit by Balvihar students of Allentown, to know about our Sunday school programs. Devotees heard the week-long recital of Ramayan Katha by Pu. Chandra Prakash Kaushikji. It culminated on the traditional day of observation of Ramnavami with this year's 24-hour Rama Charit Manas recital. Pu Kaushikji blessed all the worshippers. On this occasion, devotees graciously pledged more than $60,000.00 to HARI. The month concluded with the celebration of Mahavir Jayanti and Sri Hanuman Jayanti. We are pleased and gratified to observe that thus far in 2008, there was very good attendance at the temple for all events. As always, HARI volunteers are working together to provide all the facilities and services, to make HARI a welcoming place for all occasions. We have planned for the coming months many cultural programs, lectures and seminars. We hope, besides offering variety, these will have lasting values as well to the community. Please look for these events in our communications. In appreciating and thereby promoting the artists and scholars, your presence would also encourage more volunteer participation to continue hosting such events. We are in the process of arranging trips for elders, to other religious and cultural places. All those interested, please leave your names and availability at the temple. We are planning to celebrate HARI's anniversary on July 20th, to acknowledge the contributions of past board chairpersons, presidents and the community. For this special event, young artists will give a grand performance of Bharatanatyam to the accompaniment of live orchestra by visiting artists from India. Please mark your calendar and attend the program to enjoy and encourage our heritage. Besides many ongoing works, BOT and EC have already embarked on projects aimed at enhancing the facility for broader usage. Among them are, expansion of parking areas, video surveillance system with closed circuit TV, lightings and front curtains for the stage, and upgrading of the audio systems. Concluding on a happy note, our membership roster currently stands at 450 and may well exceed our target of 500 for the year. We would like to thank you for your wonderful support and look forward to your continuing association. May Lord Rama bless us all with peace and prosperity! Yours in service Chair, HARI Board of Trustees Jagannath Yedatore President, HARI Executive Committee Ravi Venkatasubramanian Page 5
