Term 2 Issue 03-31 May 2017 Vision Through the teaching of God s Word we will bring people to Christ and help them to grow in him. Mathew 28:19-20 Contents Important Dates Road Safety Reminders Classroom news Informa on in Brief Community News Characteristics of a Christian Leader by Pedro Cruz INTRODUCTION (Con nued): For Board members, teachers, families, students and for all who meet each other in this place called Emmanuel Chris an Community School, there is this challenge: seeking to remain faithful to Christ, in the curriculum, and in the integra on of faith and learning, but also within the school community as an ins tu on. While ac ng in support of our mission, while capturing every thought for Christ, we need to be mindful in our role as member of one body, reminding each other that our School community should enrich how we see each other and how we treat each other, and not reduce these things. We must, in the middle of striving for excellence, remind ourselves that because we are the Body of Christ, we must show compassion, jus ce, mercy and humility to all, especially those whose struggle is great. Jesus is a very inconvenient God. We must react and respond to every situa on with the significance of the cross in our minds and hearts for a er all we have been called to serve Him. To allow us to pursue this pa ern of life of Chris an care, and we must insist on providing an alterna ve to the view that would reduce us to the mere posi ons assigned to us by a non-chris an world view. Acknowledging our dualist situa ons and recognizing that even in our school community life we must remain in the world, though not of it, is, finally, how we make our way through our daily challenge to walk with each other. We are the instruments that the Father has to show the invisible God We must remind ourselves to show compassion, justice, mercy and humility to all We are so blessed that Emmanuel teachers love their students and pray that emo ons might be healed, hearts made so to the Lord, and wills might be subject to His will. Please, con nue to pray for your school that we never depart from His way. We are the instruments that the Father has to show the invisible God and make Him visible. We can make God visible to others and what a wonderful privilege it is! As the Church and the School Board seeks new leaders, what are the essen al characteris cs of a leader in Emmanuel Chris an Community School? This paper is based on an assump on. That assump on is that the Chris an school leader is the Principal. The school leader is not the School Board. This assump on will be troubling to some Board s members. To Be Con nued... Page 1
Jeanne e Giroud High School Art teache r with Year 8 stude nts Rohan Schinkel & Victoria Pavkovic I have enjoyed working with Emmanuel Chris an School students to further develop their art skills. We have very many talented students within our community and it was a very hard choice when Year 8s were given the task of vo ng for the best work of their peers. The 9 x5 study (reminiscent of the Australian Heidelberg School) was awarded to Rohan Schinkel for his beau ful small study of a sunset. The best landscape on board was awarded to Victoria Pavkovich for her very competent pain ng of an impressionist landscape. The prize awarded to both students was to have their pain ngs framed and this was done by Metropolitan Framing in Ellenbrook who have been very generous in their support of ECCS; o en supplying art boards free and giving us a sizeable discount on framing. The works are currently on display in the school library. THANK YOU to all parents who are observing school traffic and parking rules, using footpaths and holding their children s hand as they cross the road. ALL the classes from Kindy to Year 2 have had ROAD SAFETY and RULES lessons with their teachers. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT IN KEEPING OUR STUDENTS SAFE! Congratula ons to the wonderful year 7 Design & Technology class in making their beau ful handmade pillowslips. They collected them on Friday with a celebratory chocolate for all their hard work! Seeing how far they have come in learning how to sew was a shock to many of them as they admired each other s work. From vibrant pa erns, bold colours and snappy trim to pastel hues with matched borders, they were able to plan, design and create something they can use which gives pleasure as they snuggle to sleep ea ch night. Parents, please be advised they can now do the mending too: sewing on bu ons sewing that pesky hem that has come down fixing hooks and eyes which have come apart There were some surprises too wi th Taban taking to sewing on a machine as a total expert from his firs t s tch! Another student was overhea rd sa ying who knew sewing coul d be so rela xing? Also, more than one student was convinced that there was no hole in their needle as they tried to thread i t!
