My name is, and I m super excited to be here with all of you. Today we ll hear a great story, sing some songs, and play a game called Kid- O-Whampus later. Before we start, though, there are three things we should all practice together. They re our three Kid-O-Deo rules. Rule #1: When I m talking you are listening! Everyone put on your listening ears, and on the count of three, let s practice listening! Rule #2: Keep your hands and feet to yourself! Do a little clap and place your hands in your lap! Rule #3: Stay in your spot! Let s take our special glue sticks and put some glue on our spot to help us stay in the right place! Wonderful! Those rules help us pay attention and keep us from distracting others, so we can all have fun. 5
Worship 3:00 We re getting ready for something super fun and exciting in a couple weeks. Do you know what it is? CHRISTMAS! It s Christmas! We re counting down the days in a fun way. Let s stand up, because we get to start by singing about how wonderful God is. This is an extra special time of year to sing about God, because Christmas is almost here! Christmas is when we celebrate God sending Jesus to show how much he loves us. That s what this song is about. Song 1: Its Christmastime (Auto advance) Series Title Slide: Bible Adventure 5:00 It s so fun singing with you, Kid-O s! You can sit down. Like I said before, I m super excited for Christmas! Up here on stage, we have a big going on. Every day until Christmas, we get to put another ornament on this tree. Do This: Make sure the number of ornaments on the tree matches the day of December it is today, minus the one you re going to put up at the end of the hour. That s not the only way we ll be counting down to Christmas, though! We have twenty-five gifts up here, too. Each one has a different number on it! Since today is December, we get to open gift number! We get to open it in a super fun way, too. Do This: Punch through the tissue paper on the front of the gift. Take out the sheep and place it on the stage. Know This: Make sure the objects you need are inside the box before the hour begins, and that the hole on the box is covered with tissue paper. If the number on the box you are using doesn t match today s date, change the number. After the hour, you should place the objects into the box again (the bottom is hollow, just lift the box and place them underneath). Also after the hour, replace the tissue paper by taping another piece over top of the one you punched through. 6
There are a few things in here! The first one is a sheep! That must have something to do with our Bible Adventure. Bible Adventure Jingle Do This: Show kids the Bible. Kid-Os, the Bible is a book all about God. Since our world began, people have been learning about God, and when they saw God do something amazing, or learned something new about him, they wrote it and put it in this book! Today we re going to hear a story about some people who actually met God s Son, Jesus, when He was a baby. Do This: Get the Bible storybook out and sit down in the chair. This story you are going to hear comes from the Bible, but we use this storybook because the pictures help us imagine what it might have looked like back when the Bible was written. The pictures you see in here are the same as the ones on the screen. Let s get started! Do This: Have kids help you turn the pages on the screen with an exaggerated arm wave. Picture 1: Jesus, Mary, and Joseph On Christmas, we celebrate a very special day, the day that God s son Jesus was born. Jesus was born in a small town called Bethlehem. Picture 2: Shepherds and angels Near Bethlehem, some shepherds were taking care of their sheep, when suddenly angels appeared! The angels told them to go and find Jesus, because He was the Savior, God s Son. Picture 3: Shepherds visit Jesus The shepherds went to see Jesus, and that night told everyone they could about him. They probably felt very special, that God would invite them to meet His Son. Picture 4: Wise men Later, some people would show up from even farther away. Wise men came to visit Jesus from another country. They had seen a star that God had put in the sky. That 7
star led them to Bethlehem, where Jesus was! God wanted people all around the world to know that His Son Jesus was here. Series Title Slide: Great job listening, Kid-O s! The sheep in our gift was there because the shepherds were the first people invited to meet Jesus. It s amazing how God invited all kinds of people to meet Jesus when he was born. That reminds me of how much God loves every person in the world. There were a few more things in our gift, let s see what is next! Do This: Reach into the gift again, and take out a Bible, with a marker on Luke 2:11. This Bible has a verse marked in it. Let s see what it says. Luke 2:11. Today in the town of David, a Savior has been born to you. That s our memory verse! Memory Verse 3:00 Memory Verse Jingle (Auto advance) Memory Verse: Luke 2:11- Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you. This memory verse tells us about the time when Jesus was born. I ll read it again to help us remember it. Do This: Read the verse from the screen. This is actually something the angels said to the shepherds, like we heard about in our Bible Adventure. The Town of David is another name for Bethlehem, where Jesus was born. Let s practice saying that verse together! Do This: Practice the verse with the Kid-Os 2-3 times. Begin with your quiet voices, then do it in your normal voices, and finish with your super-duper loud voices! Know This: The verse with actions goes like this: (Open your Bibles) Luke 2:11- Today in the town of David (Put arms on top of one another, and lift top hand in morning motion) a Savior (arms across chest) has been born to you (rocking baby motion). He is the Messiah (Point up), the Lord (hands on head in crown motion). 8
Great job practicing your Memory Verse, Kid-Os! Let s stay on our feet and get ready to sing and worship God! Worship 3:00 The angels told the shepherds that they would find Jesus in an unexpected place, lying in a manger, something animals ate out of. That s what this song is about, it s called Away in a Manger. Song 2: Away in a Manger (Auto advance) Series Title Slide: Try it Out 5:00 Jesus came to earth as a baby, and lived his whole life to show us how much God loves us. There was something else in our gift, and I think it s going to help us try out what we ve learned. I ll go and get it! Do This: During the jingle, take the star out of the gift box. Try it Out Jingle (Auto advance) Series Title Slide: It s a star! This reminds me of the star that led the wise men to Jesus. That was a really neat way for God to show them where Jesus was. Wherever they went, that star led them the right way. Why do you think God would do that? Well, the answer is really amazing. God loves every person in the world. He loved the shepherds who ran to see Jesus, He loved the wise men who lived far away from where Jesus was born. He wanted the whole world to know that He loved them, and He wants you to know that, too. 9
Jesus showed us how much God loves us by the way he lived. From the moment Jesus was born, He was showing everyone on earth that God cares about them and loves them. Today, God has given you and me a super important mission to tell other people how much He loves them. Do you remember what the shepherds did to share God s love, and the great news about Jesus? They told everyone they could about Jesus. You can do that, too! One great way to do that is by inviting them to come to Christmas here at church. You can invite your friends, people in your family, and even grown-ups, because they need to know that God loves them too. If there is someone you want to invite, talk to your grown-ups, and get their help! You could make an invitation to give to the person, or you could just go up and ask them. Church is a great place for everyone to learn more about God, but you can also tell others about how much God loves them. You can tell them what you ve been learning in Kid-O-Deo, and even share some of the stories you ve heard, like how Jesus came to show us that God cares about us and loves us. That s an important mission, and God trusts you to do it! You did really well listening Kid-Os. Now, it s time for us to find out what else is in this gift box. Do This: Reach into the gift box and take out an ornament. This ornament goes on our big tree! Before we can put it up, though, we have to learn our Big Idea with Ranger Ron. Big Idea 2:00 Big Idea Jingle Let s say Hi Ranger Ron! Know This: The Big Idea is, I can trust that God will always love me. Big Idea Video 10
(Auto advance) Series Title Slide: Thanks Ranger Ron. No matter where we are from, or who we are, we can always know that God loves us, and we can tell others that great news too! Do This: Add the felt ornament to the tree. Kid-O-Whampus 2:00 There are only a couple weeks left until Christmas! Let s celebrate by dancing and singing to Kid-O-Whampus! Kid-O-Whampus: Snowman Builder (Auto-Advance) Take Homes. Prayer 2:00 That was a lot of fun! You can all sit down. Do This: Show kids the family connection card and the memory verse card. There are two things you should get as you leave today. The first one is our family connection card! This helps your grown-ups learn what we were talking about today. The second thing is our memory verse card. This card helps you remember and practice the memory verse at home, so when you come back next week, you ll have it ready! Let s Pray God loves when you talk to him about whatever is important to you, because he cares about you. God will always listen when you talk to him, no matter what time it is, or where you are. Let s talk to God for a moment right now! We ll put our hands in our 11
laps and close our eyes to help us focus on what we re saying to God. If you want to, you can repeat this prayer after me. Dear God, we love you. Thank you for loving us. Help us to tell others how much you love them. Amen. Kid-O-Deo Slide I have loved spending time with you, Kid-Os. Now it s time for you to go back to your classrooms where you will get into groups with your leader and other Kid-Os, have a snack, and do a fun activity. See you later! 12
