Message from the Whole Life Group Could you or someone you know be helped by this? Alternatives to Suicide Support Group Alternatives to Suicide is a peer led support group that allows participants to talk about suicidal thoughts, feelings, or experiences without fear of being judged. Participants share their struggles and successes, provide support for one another, and strategize about alternatives to help each other best cope with difficult life circumstances. People are encouraged to come in both times of strength and challenge; you need not be in crisis to attend this group. The support groups are not led by clinicians, but instead by individuals who identify with having lived experience. Participants and facilitators are viewed as experts in their experiences, and we value the mutuality that arises because of this. Alternatives to Suicide meets the 2nd and 4th Thursday of every month from 6:00-7:30 pm. Location: Iris Place, 1213 S. Matthias St. Appleton Contact: 920-815-3217 or irisplace@namifoxvalley.org From the Whole Life Group A sincere thank you Parish of Sacred Heart for your support of the Father s Day Candy Bar Sale! As the 1312 Building became vacant, we entered a partnership with the COTS organization. COTS mission is to end homelessness by helping individuals to transition to self-sufficiency and independent living. As we have worked to blend our mission of A welcoming people, nourished by the Eucharist inspired by the word of God, engaged in lifelong learning with outreach to the poor, we have worked to help bring COTS into the 1312 Building. COTS and Riverview Gardens ServiceWorks program cleaned out the building after our former tenants left, they have worked with oversite from our Building and Grounds committee to put in new flooring, paint, repair, add new light fixtures, among other things with grants and donations to COTS. They secured help from Home Depot volunteers to move renovations forward. As the groups moved to work with the city of Appleton to establish occupancy, it was brought into light the need to install a fire protection system. The proposed project cost is $86,000. COTS secured a generous anonymous donation of $35,000 and a matching gift of $25,000 from parish member and strong supporter of COTS, Mary Beth Nienhaus. The Sacred Heart finance council has approved funds for the project balance, as a donation to COTS, not to exceed $40,000. This is possible due to the generosity and responsibility of all members of our parish community. Jesus says in Matthew 25:35-36, For I was hungry and you fed me; I was thirsty and you gave me water; I was a stranger and you invited me into your homes; naked and you clothed me; sick and in prison, and you visited me. We will be living out Jesus words and our mission statements as we partner with COTS well into the future. This project should be completed and allow COTS to occupy the building and begin fulfilling our lease agreement by September 2018.
