Governor s Message Brother s and Coworkers, September is now hear and the kids are back in school. That means summer is on the way out and hopefully we will be rid of the 90-degree weather! The Lodge board members attended the Virginia Semi-Annual Conference August 23 rd thru August 26th in Roanoke, VA. Since the newsletter was due prior to us attending the conference, I will report back on that in next month s newsletter. Be sure to congratulate Carol Price when you see her around the lodge. She was presented with her Green Cap at the ceremony on August 26 th. Great job Carol!! August 19 th was a very special day for Brother Bob Agnew as he had his Pilgrim Degree of Merit Presentation. There was a great turnout and an enjoyable day for all. For many members, this had been their first opportunity to attend such a ceremony. Bob worked very hard to achieve this honor. Congratulations again Bob!! Labor Day is later this year, so mark your calendars for the Annual Labor Day Picnic. Mona and her staff always have a full, spread of good food so watch for flyers around the lodge. And remember to bring a friend or neighbor along to find out what they are missing by not being member of our lodge. Be sure to mark your calendars for Saturday, September 15. The Fellowship Committee will be putting on their annual All You Can Eat Crab Feast from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Tickets will be available in advance for $ 35.00 (see the bartender) or at the door for $ 40.00. In closing, let us not forget our children at Mooseheart and our seniors at Moosehaven. Remember that any Moose member in good standing can perform the 9:00 ceremony. Any time when members gather at the lodge for activities and fellowship that s an excellent time to collect for the endowment fund. We have seen several members of both the lodge and the chapter perform the ceremony. So, keep that in mind in your future visits to the lodge. Let s enjoy the fall weather that will be coming, and I look forward to seeing everyone at the lodge! Dear Members, WOW! It's September already!! The days are getting shorter and the mercury in the thermometer is ever so slowly starting to drop. Kids are back in school and we're all starting to talk about football. The Fall season must be just around the corner. Oh, and Christmas is less than 4 months away. On August 19th Brother Bob Agnew had his Pilgrim Ceremony. We all are very proud of Bob for reaching the highest honor that the Moose bestows upon their members. Marlene, we are also very proud of you. We know that you have supported Bob for all these years. Most men who have reached this level of accomplishments will tell you that they could not have done it without the support of their wives. I would like to thank the Franconia Moose Lodge for their gracious hospitality. As always you did an outstanding job to make Bob's day very special. I need to talk a little about membership. As of the 1st of September, we are nearing the halfway point of reaching our goal in signing new members. Thank you sponsors. We still need help on keeping our members. It doesn't help much to sign up a hundred new members if a hundred and one older members decide not to renew their dues. So, I ask all of you when you sponsor a new member try to keep them active in the lodge. Keep reminding him of all the benefits of membership and of course always remember how important we are to Mooseheart and Moosehaven. Brothers, let's all do our very best to keep our promise, that we will strengthen and maintain our defending Circle. Until next month, Kenny Head Administrator Fraternally, Eddie Mills Governor MOOSE ON A MISSION 2018-2019 WE ARE ALWAYS MOOSE PROUD!! Fellowship Committee September Entertainment Sept. 1 st The Koolerators Sept. 8 th Hot Rod Rockers Sept. 15 th Brook Yoder Band Sept. 22 nd Blues Condition Band Sept. 29 th TBD The social hour, with free drinks, will start at 4:30pm and the meeting will follow at 5:30pm. We always welcome any dinner entree suggestions. Just keep in mind that we try to keep our prices low as a benefit to our members but will be willing to charge a little more for something special! All Moose Legion Members, and our Special Ladies, are welcome to the social hour and meeting. Remember that three of our mandates are to help strengthen our Lodge and Moose Fraternity, to try to do some good thing for someone each day, and to have fun doing so! Respectfully yours, Charles Burke, Assistant Secretary Senior Regent s Message September is among us, so let us take a moment for those innocents whom perished 17 years ago in NY, PA & DC. May our fraternity celebrate their lives and ours in friendship and caring. Moose Legion Committee In September there are four officially established military dates of remembrance: JV Day on the 2 nd, Patriot Day on the 11 th, POW/MIA Recognition Day on the 21 st and Gold Star Mother s Day on the 30 th. JV Day is for the day Japan formally surrendered in 1945. Patriot Day is in remembrance of all those who died or injured during the terrorist attacks in 2001. Gold Star Mother s Day is in honor of all Mothers who lost a child while serving in our Armed Services. As a very young child I remember seeing stars in windows of families of military service members, including our own. POW/MIA Recognition Day is to remember those who were Prisoners of War and/or unaccounted for and still listed as Missing in Action. The following is the latest official record I found: Prisoners of War: WW II - 130,201 (14,072 died); Korean - (2,701 died); Vietnam - 725 (64 died); since 1991-37 (none still prisoners). Missing in Action: WW II - 73,515; Korean - 7,841; Vietnam - 1,627; Cold War - 126; since 1919-6. The WOTM Lifetime Achievement Award program is designed to give special recognition to an outstanding co-worker for her services rendered in the Chapter, the Lodge, and the community. Along with past Senior Regents and the Board, we are in the process to formulating our recommendations for this prestigious award. We have so many talented women who have spent so much of their time and energy for the good of Mooseheart and Moosehaven. We are excited to participate in this award process for the Chapter. Upcoming events to mark on your calendar: Our Stuff the Bus community service campaign has officially kicked off. Donations of children dry cereal and school supplies will be donated to our local Lorton Community Action Center (LCAC). Saturday, September 22, the WOTM is preparing Chicken, Roasted potatoes, and a Green bean casserole for $8. August highlight; 2018 Virginia Annual State Convention in Roanoke, VA held August 23-25, WOTM 653, where co-workers sported their Mission for Life necklaces. Well done, ladies! I write about these dates because, so few places do, except those like Amazon.com, and others, trying to make money off them! Our next regular meeting will be on Saturday, September 1 st. This Saturday s Meal will be a Fried Chicken Dinner with red beans & rice, corn & Dessert. The Moose on a Mission centers on all of us renewing our membership & have your friends join! It s a great night out for good, drinks, and music. Always in our thoughts and prayers our members in distress. Page 3 of 5 Downloaded from www.virginiamoose.org Posted: 8/31/2018

Until next month. Fraternally yours, Nora L. Cavanagh Senior Regent Sickness & Distress Report Please keep our members and their families in your thoughts and prayers. Mary Hager has had her first surgery and is scheduled for another surgery very soon. Mary will be non-weight bearing for some time, if you have some time to possibly help our coworker out please contact Alena Carroll to see what Mary needs. If you know a member that could use a card or phone call, please contact the Lodge Office or Alena Carroll.
