You are not responsible for me, my dog, my car, or my house but, you are responsible for yourself. It sounds simple. It is simple. Why then, do we make it so complicated? Maybe it s because being responsible for oneself takes work and effort. The only way to get a job is go out and apply, and the only way to keep your job is to get up and show up and then work. You are responsible for you. It does sound simple, why then do we make it so complicated? Oprah Winfrey said, You are responsible for your own life. You can t keep blaming someone else for your own dysfunction. Life is really about moving on. We need to learn how to let go of yesterday s problems to see today s opportunities. She also tells the story how, at six years old, she was separated from her grandmother who had been raising her and moved to Milwaukee. But, in the depth of her soul was the understanding that if she was going to move forward, she, herself was going to have to be responsible for making that happen. No one else was responsible for making life for her. The good news in choosing not to be responsible is that I can blame you for all of my problems, I can be innocent. But, my problems and struggles will not go away and I will be forced to live with them always. However, when I choose to bear the responsibility for my own problems, I discover that I actually have power over them, and can make the problem go away, whatever it is. I am responsible for myself. The choice for your life is yours, and for my life it is mine. What will you choose? See You Sunday. Shalom, Pastor Kirk
