God prepared our hearts and minds to worship. God called us beloved. The beginning is now. Come, let us worship the God of new beginnings together. *Hymn: Morning has Broken VU 409 Opening Prayer: The cool water streamed down the face of Christ. The heavens parted, and, O God, you announced your love. Gather us into that love this day as your beloved children, touched by the cooling waters, blessed with your peace. Amen. Prayer for Inner Healing: Creating Grace, you birthed a world out of love and called us good. You shower us with mercy and then pronounce us beloved. But we sometimes forget your claims upon us.

Let us feel your Spirit upon us this day, O God. Restore us to new life. Let peace and healing touch our broken places so we might offer the power of healing and love to the world and ourselves. Amen. Words of Assurance: God says to us You are my beloved. May we be open to Spirit s presence within and around us. In God s presence, we are whole, we are holy. Thanks be to God. Amen! Ministry of Music: I Feel the Spirit Arr. Besig/Price Sung by - Marion Loree & Alaina Sampson 3 Sacrament of Baptism Being accepted into the Christian family of faith today is Kayden Sampson Ward, son of Alaina Sampson and Jeff Ward and Jeffery Scott Ward, son of Brian and Blanche Ward. Statement of Purpose: Presentation of the One to be Baptized Scripture: Galatians 3:27-29 (The Inclusive Bible: The First Egalitarian Translation) Profession of faith: Jeff, you have come here to be baptized and together with Alaina you have brought your son here for baptism. In baptism we are joined to the Christian family through the sign and seal of God s eternal love. Do you believe in God and God s love? Do you believe that God is revealed to us in Jesus the Christ who lived and died, and who lives on in the Christian church? Do you believe that God, through the Holy Spirit, is active in the world to direct and to strengthen you? 4 Jeff, will you do your best to grow in your faith and will the both of you do your best to provide a Christian home for your child, encouraging him to grow in his own faith and to seek confirmation? Yes I will, God being my helper. Commitment by Congregation (congregation stands) We are to receive this child and this person as part of our faith community. In so doing, we remember our calling to share life together, and to be open to the future that the child contains. We are also called to support this family, this child and this person with love and with Christian teaching. Are you willing, as you are able to share in this responsibility? We are willing, God being our helper. Let us remain standing as we repeat together our statement of faith A New Creed. Affirmation of Faith: A New Creed VU 918 We are not alone, we live in God s world. We believe in God: who has created and is creating, who has come in Jesus, the Word made flesh, to reconcile and make new, who works in us and others by the Spirit. We trust in God. We are called to be the Church: to celebrate God s presence, to live with respect in Creation, to love and serve others, to seek justice and resist evil, to proclaim Jesus, crucified and risen our judge and our hope. In life, in death, in life beyond death, God is with us. We are not alone. Thanks be to God.

Laying on of Hands/Blessing May God bless you and keep you. May God s face shine upon you. May God look upon you with kindness and bring you peace. Baptism of Kayden Kayden Scott Ward you are baptized in the name of God our mother and father whose arms are open wide; in the name of Jesus, the Son, who teaches us how to love; and in the name of the Holy spirit, whose wings will encourage and guide you. Sign of the Cross and Blessing Kayden, child of God, we bless you with water and the sign of the cross. A symbol of the love of Christ. May you always know that you are a precious child of God. Laying on of Hands/Blessing Prayer Lighting of the Baptismal Candles Scripture: Genesis 1:1-5, 31 (Inclusive Bible - The First Egalitarian Edition) (In the beginning) In the Beginning God created the heavens and the earth. But the earth became chaos and emptiness, and darkness came over the face of the Deep - yet the Spirit of God was brooding over the surface of the waters. Then God said, Light: Be! And light was. God saw that light was good, and God separated the light from darkness. God called the light Day and the darkness Night. Evening came, and morning followed - the first day. God looked at all of this creation, and proclaimed that this was good - very good. Responsive Reading: Psalm 29 (paraphrase-james Taylor, Everyday Psalms) (Riding on God s Shoulders) Age and experience have their benefits. A child s excitement sometimes needs a parent s stability. A caring parent is like a raft in a torrent of people. The flood surges along irresistibly. It picks up small children and swirls them away under its surface. Its bedlam drowns the tiny cries of lost little ones. The calls of parents go unheard. But a child is safe, riding on a parent s shoulders. It rises above the tumult; it cannot be swept away. God, you stand firm against every tumult. no flood can tumble you along; no crisis can sweep you away. Sometimes we cannot hear your voice over the chaos; the din of destruction drowns our feeble cries for help. We can be safe only when we wrap our arms around your neck, and hold on tight. Then the torrent cannot touch us. God is much stronger than we are. God can carry us to safety.

7 Scripture: Mark1:1-11 (Inclusive Bible - The First Egalitarian Edition) (Jesus is baptized) Here begins the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God: as it was written in Isaiah the prophet: I send my messenger before you to prepare your way, a herald s voice in the desert, crying, Make ready the way of our God. Clear a straight path. And so John the Baptizer appeared in the desert, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. The whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem went out to John and were baptized by him in the Jordan River as they confessed their sins. John was clothed in camel s hair and wore a leather belt around his waist, and he ate nothing but grasshoppers and wild honey. In the course of his preaching, John said, One more powerful than I is to come after me. I am not fit to stoop and untie his sandal straps. I have baptized you in water, but the One to come will baptize you with the Holy Spirit. It was then that Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized in the Jordan River by John. Immediately upon coming up out of the water, Jesus saw the heavens opening and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. Then a voice came from the heavens: You are my Beloved, my Own. On you my favour rests. Message: We Are Not Alone Hymn: Spirit, Spirit of Gentleness VU 375 Offering: Ministry of Music: Go Tell It On A Mountain Arr. You give us care. Today, we pray that you do not just give but that you take; take our lives and shape them to be lives of grace and care for one another. 8 Take our lives and shape them to be your voice of love in this world. Take our lives and shape them to be lives that are found to be wellpleasing. Amen. Joys and Concerns: Prayer Prelude: Gather Us In MV 7 Gather us in, ground us in you. Gather us in, ground us in you. Amen! *Parting Song: Go Tell It on the Mountain - chorus + vs 1 VU 43 Prayer of the week: God of power and love, at his baptism Jesus was called beloved and the Spirit was seen in him.
