About Our Cover Prayer is one of the most important things we do, an action that keeps us in touch with God. Jesus taught his disciples to pray, then added some motivating stories to keep them praying. We hope this image can remind us to take time from our busy lives and find a quiet moment and space to be in prayer. Rectory email: churchoffice@stveronicassf.com

We deem it a privilege to assist the mission of Christ in your diocese of Alleppey through our prayers and financial help. Dear Friends at St. Veronica, On the weekend of June 19 & 20, 2010, you may recall that Bishop Stephen Athipozhiyil of the diocese of Alleppey, India, was with us, preaching the mission appeal. On his return home, he sent me the following e-mail: Dear Fr. Charles, Greetings of love and peace of Our Lord from Bishop s House, Alleppey! I am happy to let you know that I reached back Alleppey on 6 th July. By your prayers and good will my stay abroad and journey from place to place was very pleasant and comfortable. I remember with love and gratitude your good will and concern towards me and the Diocese. You will be remembered in my prayers, Thanking you for your good will and interest in the affairs of the Diocese, Yours lovingly in Jesus, Bishop Stephen Athipozhiyil Bishop of Alleppey ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ I have sent him the following response through e-mail: July 17, 2010 Dear Bishop Stephen Athipozhiyil, It's great to receive your e-mail! I'm glad to know that you have returned home safely after your many travels. It must feel really good to be back home and not to live out of a suitcase! I so enjoyed meeting you and getting to know you. You are a kind and friendly person and a dedicated bishop. It was a joy to extend hospitality to you. We enjoyed, among other things, the dinner with you and some priests from India. It only showed that wherever we may be, we continue to fulfill the mission of Christ. Also, we were inspired and touched by your homilies and faith. You are always welcome at St. Veronica Parish, South San Francisco, California. In union of prayers, Your brother in Christ, Father Charles Puthota ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Our Archdiocese has just informed me that the second collection from our parish for the mission of the diocese of Alleppey amounts to $3,278.00. I thank you for your generosity and good will in assisting the mission of Jesus Christ in the far away diocese of Alleppey, India. It is a privilege for us to be invited to be part of the good works being done in that part of the world. Let us always remember that the Church continues to preach the good news of Jesus Christ in season and out of season in all parts of the world. By actively assisting this sacred mission, we are in effect following the message of Christ who tells us to go to the whole world and preach the good news to all nations. We thus become missionaries in our own way because we are helping those missionaries preach the good news through our prayers and financial help. I thank you again for your kind generosity. Your Friend and Pastor, Father Charles Puthota SPIRITUALITY & PRAYER WHO S YOUR DADDY? The Lord s Prayer. Let s stop and think about it. Jesus disciples were required by Jewish law to say the prayer Hear O Israel (Deuteronomy 6:4 5) every day of their lives, yet they say Teach us to pray. He responds When you pray say Father... Shocking! Jesus uses a child s version of Father ( Abba means Daddy ). No believing Jew says God s name, only Lord or The Blessed One. Abba is not above us, but holds us close to his heart. We can trust that Abba will hear us. We honor God, pray for the Kingdom among us, ask for food to nourish body and soul, and the power to forgive as God forgives us. Finally, we pray that God not lead us into temptation, that is, not put us to the test, for we do not want to disappoint our Abba who loves us. This prayer helps us to strip away all the complications of talking to God and know that God always listens. Copyright 2009, World Library Publications. All rights reserved.
The Lord s Prayer Our Father who art in heaven Hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth As it is in heaven. Get Your Festival Apparel! Drop off your order at Rectory office during the Summer months. Something to Consider Give us this day our daily bread; And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil. Amen Do you think of the Our Father as a prayer that Jesus has given to you? Do you relate more to God as a friend you have to wake up or a father who gives his children good gifts--or both?
