Wave Of Prayer March 6th at Rail Road Park at 2pm.
On any given Sunday, in any given church, you can ask, Do you believe in prayer? and you will get a unanimous response. Even if the church is politically divided or facing a potential church-split, virtually every one would agree that prayer is important. So why don t we pray then? One recent survey revealed that the average Christian prays approximately 5 minutes a week. A week? you say? Yes, a week. I recently read that prayer is the most often talked about and least often practiced discipline of the Christian faith. One pastor reported that he preached on prayer every Sunday for one entire year, but after 52 messages on prayer he observed that the prayer level in the church did not appear to increase at all. But later he started calling people to join him in specific gatherings in which he would show his people how to pray by praying with them and that approach dramatically increased the prayer level in the church. I don t think I need to read another book or attend another conference on prayer (not that there is anything wrong with doing so). For the past two years, I have been learning how to pray by simply praying. I cried out to the Lord and said, Lord, teach me how to pray and I have been his student of prayer ever since. I personally believe that the best way to change the praying climate of the church is to lead the men of the church to be more disciplined in prayer. Therefore, I am asking all of the men of the Calvary family to join me on Sunday nights in March (4 weeks) at 5:30. With God s Word as our textbook and God s Spirit as our teacher, we will discuss the following: Seeking His face, not just His hands (March 4) Praying with Scripture (March 11) Praying with your spouse/family (March 18) Praying and fasting (March 25) I am praying that the Lord will ignite a fresh passion and increase the prayer involvement of our church family through the men. It s time we pray like we believe in prayer!
