BEEFESIANS Lesson #5 Be Strong The purpose of this lesson plan is to: Create a fun and interactive learning experience Provide teaching options in addition to the Leader Q Card Creatively revisit the Bible story featured in the teaching video Give kids an opportunity to further explore the application point PROGRAM Activity Length of Segment Running Time Q Card: Discussion 15 minutes Start-15 minutes Picture: Bible Story 5 minutes 15-20 minutes Play: Learning Activity 10 minutes 20-30 minutes Plan: Group Commitment 5 minutes 30-35 minutes Pray: Prayer Cards 5 minutes 35-45 minutes PREP You will need: Paper plates (1 per kid) Markers Paper and tape (for making 3 darts per team) Game Prizes (optional) Story Props (optional) Prayer Cards (1 per kid) MAP Books (1 per kid) PICTURE (The Bible Story) In this portion of your class time you have the opportunity to retell the Bible story presented earlier in the teaching video. The object is to paint a picture that kids will understand and remember. When telling the story, remember you are painting a picture for your viewers. Have fun and explore your creativity. Here are some ideas to make your storytelling more memorable: Ask 2 kids to place the pieces of armor on you while another volunteer reads the verses. Choose one volunteer to throw darts at you after you are armed. Use props: objects to represent the pieces of spiritual armor and the darts.

Ephesians 6:13-18 Use every piece of armor to resist the enemy in the time of evil, so that after the battle you will still be standing firm. Stand your ground putting on the sturdy belt of truth and the body armor of God s righteousness. For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the good news, so that you will be fully prepared. In every battle you will need faith as your shield to stop the fiery arrows aimed at you by Satan. Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit which is the word of God. Pray at all times and on every occasion in the power of the Holy Spirit. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all Christians everywhere. PLAY (Learning Activity) In this portion of your class time you will lead your class in a fun and exciting activity that will help your kids apply the Bible lesson to their everyday lives. Armed and Ready HOW TO START: Divide kids into 2 teams. Hand out one paper plate to each player. Hand out markers. Hand out paper and tape to each team. Give players 2 minutes to each make their own faith shields using the paper plates. Give the teams 2 minutes to each make 3 team darts using rolled up paper and tape. HOW TO PLAY: Say, This game is called Armed and Ready. This game will help us learn about putting on the whole armor of God so that we can be strong. Begin round #1. One player from each team competes in round #1. The players each use their own shields and the 3 team darts. Say GO. The players throw the three darts at each other while using their faith shields to defend themselves. If a player successfully hits his opponent with a dart, he receives 1 point for his team. Give the players 1 minute to complete the round. Read a question to both players. The first player to answer the question earns 2 bonus points for his team. Choose one player from each team to compete in round #2. Repeat all steps for the remaining 9 rounds (or less). The team with the most points at the end of the last round wins the game. PLAY OPTIONS: Hand out game prizes (optional). 2

GAME QUESTIONS: Why do we need the whole armor of God? In what ways does Satan throw darts at us? One piece of the armor of God is the belt of. One piece of the armor of God is the armor of God s. One piece of the armor of God is the peace that comes from the. One piece of the armor of God is the helmet of. What do you use as your shield? How can you put on the belt of truth? What is the sword of the Spirit? When should you pray for power? PLAN (Group Commitment) In this portion of your class time you have the opportunity to lead your group to make a commitment. You may select any ONE of the options provided or your group may create its own. Encourage the kids to write their commitments on their Prayer Cards so you can be praying for them during the week. Commitment Options: Use things around your house to make pieces of the whole armor of God. Label them and keep them in your room to help you remember them. Read your Bible everyday this week. The Bible is the sword of the Spirit. Pray everyday this week for all the Christians in the world. PRAYER In this portion of your class time, have your kids fill out the Prayer Card. Take the cards home and pray for your kids throughout the week. End your time together by praying for your group commitment. Hand out prayer cards Ask Kids to fill in their commitments in the space provided Ask kids to fill in their prayer requests in the space provided Collect cards so you can take them home and pray for your kids Close in prayer God, thank you for your Spirit who helps us to be strong. Help us to do things everyday that will prepare us to be armed and ready. Help us to pray about everything. Help us to learn your word, the Bible, because your word is the sword of the Spirit. We want our faith in you to grow. Help us to trust you more everyday. Give us strength to complete the things we have committed to do this week. In Jesus name, amen. 3

Remember to Hand out the MAP Books. Encourage kids to complete at home with an adult and bring back next week! 4
