Oakland Baptist Church THE ACORN March 2016 Located at: 2965 Oakland Church Rd. Gum Spring, VA 23065 On the web at: www.oakland-baptist.com Office: 804-556-3550 Dear Church Family, The month of March is a time for celebration. Although Easter often falls in April, this year we will be celebrating Easter on March 27 th. For the early Christians, Easter was the most important celebration of the year. The celebration of the Resurrected Lord was the highlight of the year for Christians, much more so than Christmas which did not begin to be celebrated until several hundred years after the death and resurrection of Christ. This year, we will be having our Sunrise service at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday/March 27, followed by breakfast, then Sunday and our Easter Worship Service. We are experimenting with this new time schedule to better accommodate families and to prevent any long gaps in the schedule. We hope you will join us for this special time of the year and invite some family/friends to come as well. Also, on Saturday/March 26 we will be having a special Easter Egg hunt for children from 10:00 12:00 noon. On the first Sunday/March 6, the women will be leading us in our morning service. You will want to join us for this special day as we celebrate Beautiful Women doing Beautiful Things for Christ. This Sunday also kicks off our week long focus for the Annie Armstrong Mission Offering. This is the annual offering we collect to provide support for all the mission work we do here within our own country. It supports inner-city ministries to the poor, the planting of new churches, prison ministries and work among many of our immigrant populations. Our goal this year is $1000. We hope you will begin praying now, asking God how He will lead you to give and pray. As we celebrate Easter, it is a wonderful opportunity to remind ourselves that we have a resurrected Lord. Through Jesus, God has said Yes to new life! God does not call us to simply live by a set of rules and regulations that can help us manage life. He calls us to follow a living Lord who lives in us through the power of His Holy Spirit. In the midst of any and all circumstances of life, we are constantly being renewed by the presence of our resurrected Lord so that we can share in His life and share His life with others. The Apostle Paul said it so well in his letter to the Corinthians We do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day.
