FROM THE DESK OF YOUR MUSIC DIRECTOR! Hello all! Happy New Year! New liturgical year that is! This month of November has brought many transitions and celebrations. We have transitioned from Autumn to Winter. We have elected new government officials. We have ended the Jubilee Year of Mercy and have begun the season of Advent which is a more simpler time. We celebrate the month of All Saints and All Souls by praying for those who have gone before us. We thank and pray for those who have served and are serving our country. We celebrate the consecration and dedication of Saint Francis Xavier Cathedral our house of prayer. We ponder the end times which not only carry us from the old liturgical year but into the beginning of the new liturgical year. Toward the end of the old liturgical year we celebrate my favorite saint, Saint Cecilia, the patron saint of music and musicians. On Friday, November 18th we celebrated her with our Saint Cecilia Concert. I found this year s concert to be particularly prayerful. It is not your usual concert, it is all for the Glory and Praise of God. Through the intercession of Saint Cecilia we pray that we can bring some beauty and truth to this world that God has given us to take care of. It is from the heart of the artist or musician that comes the cry Lord, help me to do my best so that I can serve and praise you! It is God who has given the gift of music for He is the Divine Musician! One more special day that we celebrate in the month of November is the holiday of Thanksgiving. I want to thank God for my family and friends who have blessed me with so much and I want to thank the musicians of our parish who have also recognized the gift of music that God has given them and their cry to give back to God. November is a month of change and transitions but I suppose every month has that. Blessings! ~ Jody Strnad. CATHEDRAL & ST. SEMINARIAN BIRTHDAY Our parish seminarian, Kyle Sladek, will be celebrating his birthday on December 2nd. How wonderful it would be if many members of our parish sent him cards, care packages, etc. to let him know of our prayers and support as he continues to discern his vocation to the priesthood. His address is: 1000 E. Maple Ave., Mundelein, IL 60060. SENTIMENTS FOR SEMINARIANS As a simple way to support priestly vocations besides prayer or financial support can be by donating something to the annual Knights of Columbus Sentiments for Seminarians program. It s a great way to say Happy Thanksgiving or Merry Christmas to a seminarian. Items and ideas are: gas cards, gift cards for a department store, pharmacy or restaurant, gloves, scarves, winter hats, pens, pencils, notebooks, paper and stationary, tissue, paper towel, Shaving cream, aftershave, razors soap, shampoo toothbrushes, tooth paste, mouthwash Ziploc bags and small food storage containers, Windex and cleaning items. Just place your item in the box provided in the BWC entrance and the Knights will take care of the distribution. Thank you for your generosity! PRAYER CORNER The highest form of prayer is to stand silently in awe of God. ~St Isaac the Syrian Are you ready to take the Advent Silence Challenge? During this noisy, busy, crazy time in our calendar, determine to set aside time daily for silent prayer. Put down the to-do list, turn off the electronics, close your eyes, breathe, and just be. Be with the One who loves you best. This first week of Advent, challenge yourself to spend five minutes each day in silent awe of God. Be still and know that I am God. Ps 46:10
