December 2, 2018 10:00 a.m. Pastor Brian Bork Elder-in-Charge: Nick B Pastor Brian Bork serves as the chaplain at both the University of Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier University. Many of us at Community CRC also know him as husband of our own Pastor Amanda. Welcome Pastor Brian! [* Please rise, in body or spirit] Advent is a four-week season of preparation for the celebration of Christ s birth at Christmas. Advent means coming. In the ancient church it was set aside as a time of fasting, prayer, and generosity as believers consciously prepared themselves for the future advent of Christ, even as they prepared to celebrate the past advent of Christ. This year, we will be taking some time during the four weeks of Advent to prepare ourselves for the future coming of Christ by reflecting on passages about the End Times. The word Maranatha means Come, Lord! It is a short prayer used in a few places in the Bible, including I Corinthians and Revelation. Gathering and Greeting Gathering Song: PsH #328 O Come, O Come, Immanuel Welcome and Announcements *Call to Worship *God s Greeting and Mutual Greeting *Songs of Praise: Cornerstone Candle Lighting My Soul Cries Out with a Joyful Shout Scripture Reading: Zechariah 12: 10-13:1 Advent Prayer Lighting of the Advent Candle Song: Lo! John Ryan Edward was born on Wednesday, November 28 and all is well. Praise God for this gift of new life! We are so excited to welcome our third child, Edmund Arthur (8), into our family and we praise God for this amazing opportunity. We thank those that have offered support, a listening ear and prayers during the paperwork process over the past few

months. It is an incredible feeling to finally have him with us. The G s (8) Our condolences are extended to Gord F (2) with the passing away of his beloved wife of 69 years, Shirley. Shirley passed away at Parkwood Mennonite Home yesterday, November 28, 2018 in her 93 rd year. Shirley was also a grandmother to Sarah and Joel V (Jadon, Cohen, and Anna). A memorial service was held yesterday at our church. Our condolences are extended to Ashley and John M (8) with the passing away of Ashley s grandfather, Jelle (John) F on Monday, November 26, 2018 in his 92nd year. A celebration of Jelle s life was held yesterday, December 1, 2018 at the Vineland Free Reformed Church. Lynda J (14) continues to be a patient at Grand River Hospital. She is making slow and steady progress in her recovery. It is not known, at this point, as to when she will be able to return home. Pray for patience and a full recovery. Please note the following correction from last week s bulletin: The name of Heidi s V s Mom is Edith V. John and Anne D (13) are entering their final week in North Carolina volunteering with World Renew Disaster Response Services. Pray for a productive week and a safe return. After her maternity leave, Pastor Amanda is now returning to full-time ministry beginning tomorrow. Our Office Administrator, Donna V has some remaining vacation and will be taking Mondays off for the remainder of the calendar year. The church building will be open and other staff will be present on those days.

Founded in 1876, Calvin College is an educational institution of the Christian Reformed Church and stands in the Reformed tradition of Protestantism. Next week our offering is for The House of Friendship. Originally, House of Friendship was a store-front mission on King Street in downtown Kitchener. It had a reading room, a dining room and provided food. The mission was a response of the local Christian community to the physical and spiritual needs of the area s most vulnerable residents a tradition that continues to this day. Over the years, the work of House of Friendship has evolved into a charitable social service agency serving thousands, providing addiction treatment, food, housing, and community resources throughout Waterloo Region. Every year they walk with over 42,000 people who need food, housing, community resources or addiction treatment.

MISSIONARY CORNER This past week we received the Fall Newsletter from the Guelph Campus Ministry. Campus Ministers Sara D, Neil and Virginia L provide an update on the events and happenings at the University of Guelph including some prayer requests. Please help yourself to a copy at the Information Centre. COMMUNITY CHURCH NEWS Highlights from Administrative Council Meeting of November 27, 2018 All Council members were present and Pastor Amanda was welcomed back to her role. A representative from the LAFF (Life- After-Fifty-Five) Ministry (Martin O) visited to update Council by sharing some of the successes, joys, and concerns of the program. The Mission Strategy Team (Larry L) visited to explain the proposed level of missionary support for 2019 for the T and P families. The financial target for 2019 is $14,000 to be raised through free-will offerings. Watch for more details. Various staff and ministry reports were received for information and discussed. The preaching schedule for December to May was approved. The Deacons offering schedule for 2019 was approved. Jane V has applied to be CCRC nominee for the CRCNA National Gathering in May 2019. Her name was forwarded to Classis Huron. CCRC s connection to some of the developments beyond our property brought forth some issues that Council needed to discuss. There will be many changes to this part of Kitchener in the next few years which requires that we remain aware of what is going on so that we will appropriately find our place in all of it.
