10-16-2016 PARISH LIFE Page 3 TODAY S READINGS First Reading Second Reading Gospel Reading Exodus 17:8-13 2 Timothy 3:14-4:2 Luke 18:1-8 A Message from Father Don Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Just as our first Reading was a victory story, so is the parable Jesus tells about the widow and the judge in today s Gospel. A lowly widow comes before the judge, seeking her rights. The immoral judge ignores her, but the widow goes on pleading and nagging until he finally decides the case in her favor. He helps the widow not because he is good but because she is persistent. Jesus concludes that if a corrupt judge can do justice to someone who keeps asking, God, the most just judge of all, will certainly listen to those who persist in prayer. Prayer at its heart is about our continuing conversion, bringing us closer to God, and letting God s love and mercy change us. Have you had the experience of praying for a long time and seemingly receiving no answer? Realize that God does answer our prayers, but not always in a way that we want or a way we can recognize. Faith calls us to pray, to trust that God will be God and do what is best for all. Building Fund plans are underway for our new Family Life Center. Mark you calendars for the Kick-Off Gala Dinner which will be held on February 25, 2017 at the Wanderer s Country Club. For more information or to volunteer to help, please contact John Fierfelder at 561-846-1821. The Gala committee Meeting that was canceled on October 6th has been rescheduled for Thursday, October 20th at 7:00pm in the Faith House. 3
