St. Kevin Roman Catholic Church St. Kevin Parish Mission Statement We are a Catholic Christian community striving to live as disciples of Jesus Christ. Nourished by the Eucharist and enlightened by the Word of God, our Pastor, Parish Staff and Parishioners welcome all. Our commitment encompasses serving the youth through education, sports and formation. We seek to develop services for the elderly and homebound. Finally we wish to challenge and sustain all parishioners through spiritual and education activities. Most Reverend Raymond F. Chappetto, Pastor, D.D., V.G, V.E. Reverend Robert H.C. Thirty-first Sunday in Ordinary Time

St. Kevin R.C. Church Page 2 Q. I was in the last pew of the Church last Sunday when it was raining. Water was pouring down on the pew and it was unusable. What s going on? A. We not only had rain water in the last pew but it was also in the choir loft, in the priest s sacristy, etc. We have a serious roof problem on our church. We have just been informed that the Church roof needs to be replaced. We already had to value engineer our re-building project for the Church and the Academy. That means certain elements of the projects were eliminated in favor of others. We were NOT planning to replace the entire church roof. However, it seems that it is now necessary to do so. Fortunately, we are mobilized to do so. The scaffolding is in place and it seems like now is the time. We were just planning to repair the parts of the roof that have been problematic. Now it s an entirely new roof! The Re-Building St. Kevin Campaign needs your help! Please consider a pledge if you have not already done so. Please continue the monthly payments if you have already made a pledge. PLEASE pray that we can bring this project to a successful conclusion. I m counting on your prayers and continued support. A Sincere Word of Gratitude On the occasion of my 50th Anniversary of Profession as an Apostolic Oblate, I am deeply grateful for the beautiful show of love and support I received not only from those who were able to join me for Vespers and dinners, but many of you who stopped me and congratulated me. I am thankful for each and everyone of you parishioners of St. Kevin, co-workers, friends. Your presence in my life has been a tremendous source of joy and inspiration. I fill honored in serving you. Special thanks to the love and support of our Pastor Bishop Chappetto, and for all our priests, seminarians and deacon, who support me on my journey of faith. I count on your prayers that I may grow closer to Jesus daily and remain faithful to my vocation to live fully the gospel of love and holiness. Even more, in the spirit of my Founder, Bishop Giaquinta, I pray with all my heart that we will be saints together for the glory of God! Thank you! Page 7 www.stkevinflushing.org The Mommy & Me children had fun celebrating Halloween! The Sound of Communion The priest receives Holy Communion, and then there is movement, a bustle of activity, as we prepare to join the Communion procession. This holy meal does not happen in silence! Instead, we sing together even as we rise and move forward in procession to the altar. We must change and move to receive the Eucharist, and fittingly so, since the Eucharist is transformative, it demands action of us, internal as well as external. We do not receive the sacrament in silence, but with a dialogue that is also a profession of faith: The Body of Christ. Amen. The Blood of Christ. Amen. We acknowledge the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist with our Amen of faith, but more, our Amen is also a prayer that we may become what we receive, the Body of Christ, living and active in the world. We receive him not that he may become a part of us, but that we may become a part of him part, too, of all the others who receive him, the whole communion of believers.
