At the end of this Notable Notes you will find the final packet of information which is supplied by Toula Chininis. 35th Annual Conference of the Southeastern Federation of Greek Orthodox Choirs and Musicians Spartanburg, SC July 28-31, 2011 The St. Nicholas Parish of Spartanburg, SC welcomes you back to where the Southeastern Federation was first organized 35 years ago through the foresight, effort and love of +Fr. George and Presvytera Anna Gallos. We look forward to honoring Presvytera Anna and invite you to join us in the celebration. This will be a remembrance of the first conference held in Spartanburg in 1976. At that time, Presvytera Anna directed her arrangement of the Divine Liturgy and Joanna Trakas Cavalaris was one of the organists. This year we will be featuring The Divine Liturgy of Saint John Chrysostom Opus II in Greek and English arranged by Presvytera Anna Gallos. Joanna Cavalaris (Charlotte, NC) will be directing the conference choir, Kay Nastopoulos (Marietta, GA) will be the guest organist and Cali Spyropoulos (Charleston, SC) will be the youth director. The conference committee is working diligently to offer you A Conference to Remember! Music may be purchased directly from Presvytera Anna Gallos or from Evangeline Music Press, 1 Baratra Court #103, Timonium, MD 21093. The phone number for Evangeline Music Press is is 410.308.0188. The cost of The Divine Liturgy of Saint John Chrysostom Opus II in Greek and English is $20.00, which includes shipping. Please do not deny financial reimbursement to the publisher by making copies of the music. Strain your brain and get out the creative juices for Friday Night will be Talent Night! Everyone is invited to get together with your talented choir members to present a song, dance, skit or poem. There will be more details in the conference packet. But start planning now! Also important to the success of the choir conference is the commemorative conference album. We are especially appreciative of all choirs who send in a choir photo and other ads their members have gathered from individuals in their community. Palm Sunday is a great time to take the choir picture! Just fill out the ad form, send it in and we ll do the rest. We have made hotel arrangements at the Marriott Spartanburg at Renaissance Park. It is conveniently located to the church and is in downtown Spartanburg. Our special rate is $89.00 plus tax. Call 1-800-228-9290 or 864-596-1211 for your reservation under the name of the Southeastern Federation Choir Conference. Registration for adults is $140.00 before July 1, 2011 with late registration at $165.00. Youth registration is $40.00 with the late registration of $65.00. Forms are in the conference packet. The St. Nicholas community is excited and honored to recognize the many musical contributions of Presvytera Anna Gallos. Southeastern Federation of Greek Orthodox Choirs and Musicians Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, The time has come once again to consider who among your choir members should be recognized for their dedication to the Music Ministry of our Church. The was initiated by the National Forum of Greek Orthodox Church Musicians and established in 1996 as a means of giving national recognition to meritorious individuals whose contributions to the Music Ministry of the Church are worthy of distinction. The award is given as a national recognition to meritorious individuals in each metropolis whose contributions on a local, as well as a metropolis level, to the Music Ministry of the Church, are worthy of distinction. Normally this would involve being an active participant in the choir federation as an officer, committee member, conduct area music workshops, etc. Each year at the conclusion of our choir conferences three individuals are recognized for their meritorious service. Each recipient shall have significantly contributed talents and/ or service to the development and perpetuation of the Greek Orthodox Church Choirs and Musicians of the Atlanta Metropolis.
