Saint Jude Catholic School www.stjudefw.org November 1, 2018 November month of remembrance: In the church calendar, during the month of November, we remember those who have gone before us. We begin the Month on November 1 st by celebrating the Solemnity of All Saints Day, a Holy Day of Obligation. The obligation being that we attend Mass as we are required on Sundays. This day is special because we honor those Holy men and women who share in eternity with God in heaven. We remember and pray to them asking intercession for us as a source of strength in our own personal journeys to holiness. On November 2 nd we commemorate All Souls Day. On this day, and throughout the month of November, we will pray for our loved ones and all those souls in purgatory awaiting that day when they will join God in heaven. Our prayers assist them on their journey. At school each student will be encouraged to write the name of a loved one, family member or friend who has passed away. These names will be brought forward at Mass on November 2 nd and we will pray for them during the month of November. We will also have a box for prayer intentions in the front office. Please feel free to place a name in the box to be included in our prayers this month. Sealed by the Spirit: Dare To Be Saints! Congratulations to the 8 th graders who were confirmed by Bishop Rhoades this past Sunday. It was a beautiful ceremony and the Bishop preached a wonderful homily. Bishop put a couple of students on the spot and asked them some tough questions about the sacraments. They answered well. The students really knew their stuff. Bishop also gave the students one departing challenge Dare to be Saints. Most of the Saints were ordinary people who lived ordinary lives but they lived each ordinary moment for God. Confirmation sends us the Holy Spirit in a real way to help us live our lives according to his will. God Bless our 8 th Graders. Electronic social media tip: In this edition and in future newsletters, we will try to pass on some tips that may be helpful as we all, students and adults alike, seek only positive use of the internet and social media. Please consider placing this prayer to St. Isidore of Seville the patron Saint of the Internet on or near your computer or device and say it before you log on to the Internet: Almighty and eternal God, who has created us in your image and has bidden us to seek after all that is good, true and beautiful, especially in the divine person of Your only begotten Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, grant we beseech You that, through the intercession of Saint Isidore, bishop and doctor, during our journeys through the internet we will direct our hands and eyes only to that which is pleasing to You and treat with charity and patience all those souls whom we encounter. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen God Bless, Mr. Obergfell St. Jude School Mission Statement St. Jude Catholic School community, a vital part of the St. Jude Catholic parish, is dedicated to educating each child spiritually, intellectually, emotionally culturally, and physically. VISION STATEMENT Our vision for St. Jude Catholic School is to create a faith-filled academic community composed of students, parents, faculty, and staff which offers a Christcentered education and embraces the uniqueness of all students to be life-long learners. 1:45PM DISMISSAL WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 28TH This is a Dress Down Day! You will receive information on the Theology of the Body curriculum which will be taught in the second semester. You will be given opportunity to preview all of the materials, hear the bishop s address, and we will be there to answer your questions. If you have not attended this meeting in the last two years, we ask that you attend again. We often hear things differently depending on which of our children on whom we are focusing. If you have any questions beforehand, or after, please don t hesitate to reach out jschleitwiler@stjudefw.org or call me, 484-6609. Don t forget to move your clocks back 1 hour! Special thanks to Stacey Andrist and the Taste and See committee. Thank you to Stacey Adrist and the entire committee for putting on such an amazing event. The tailgate theme was so fun, the decorations were simple, yet amazing and fun. I love my St. Jude koozie! People came dressed in their favorite sports team jerseys. We had a football game playing on the big screen and cornhole being played in the basement. The Tailgate food was incredibly delicious, from burnt ends, smoked brisket, bacon wrapped fried hot dogs, chicken wings, chili and cornbread, guiness stew, and of course Fr. David s meatballs and Mr. Obergfell s hot ham sandwiches. Hope I didn t miss anything. Plus, the desserts were awesome with First Place going to the Bourbon Bacon Cake, Yummy! There was something for everyone. Thank you to everyone who bought tickets and ate and drank until their hearts were content. Thank you to Stacey and the committee for all your hard work and especially the cooks who made all the great food. Thanks for sharing your time and talent. It was super fun. This is an event that no one should miss. When the weather gets colder, please remember to send your children with warm coats, hats, and gloves. They will definitely need them for recess and dismissal time. Thank you!

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 1- ALL SAINTS DAY Today, Thursday, November 1, at the 10:00am Mass, our 4 th graders dressed as their favorite saint. I hope you were able to join us for this special Mass. SAFETY WHEN PICKING UP AND DROPPING OFF Please remember to watch your speed on the side streets and by the school. Make sure you are only dropping students off at the curb closest to the school and not the opposite side of the road. We do not want children walking across the road in between traffic. During cold and inclement weather please do not wait until you are at the front of the line to have your students get out of the car. If your child needs help getting out of your vehicle please remain in your car, Mrs. Leeuw is there to help. We need the line to keep moving, giving everyone the chance to arrive on time. THANK YOU! SECOND GRADE PARENT MEETING Second Grade Parents, mark your calendar, Thursday, November 15th is our First Reconciliation Meeting. We will be meeting at 7 pm in the basement of the church. I look forward to meeting everyone as we begin this journey with the children. If you have not attended this meeting in the last two years, we ask that you attend again.
