Congratulations to our 3rd and 4th graders on their incredible performance of A Christmas Carol: Scrooge in Bethlehem. The children reminded us of the promise of salvation for all, the poor and rich, in the birth of Emmanuel. We are proud of our students for working so hard to share this important message and we are thankful for Mrs. Smith, our music teacher, for working so hard to prepare them. This week, all of our students had the opportunity to shop for their family members and friends at our Secret Santa Shop. We have no doubt that our moms, dads, grandmas and grandpas will have many treasured items under the tree this year! Thanks to Ariana Yokum and the following team of parent volunteers for making this fun experience possible: Laurie Louisio, Meghan Swails, Carla Gerardi, Patti Chattin, Amy Crumwell, Marcie Sokash, Kim Roberts, Melissa Silva, Michelle Riley, Amy Davison, Ann Harmon, Donna Noll, Gina Meadows, Therese Rowsey, Beth Hanna, Jaime Witschger, Mrs. Pham, Ashley Gatterdam, Holly Vonderwell, Lisa Lomonico and Melanie Pacifico. On Thursday, our kindergarten students enjoyed Polar Express Day. The students spent the day dressed in their pajamas making a mug of cocoa craft, solving marshmallow math problems, and writing to a Polar Express writing prompt. Mrs. Ruth and I even had the opportunity to join the fun! We dressed in matching pajamas and read the Polar Express to all three classes. When we finished reading, each student received a train ticket and their own bell. At the end of the day, the students enjoyed a popcorn snack and watched the movie. Our fourth grade students visited the residents at Mother Angeline McCrory Manor today to carol to their residents. They spread Christmas cheer to those who needed it most. Blessings, Darren Smith
Third Week of Advent: Joy Light three candles THIRD WEEK OF ADVENT: Joy Light three candles (pink). This third week of Advent we light the pink candle, which means joy. From Jesus Christ we have received so much love, beauty, and joy for the simple things in life. This week let us be happy with simple things that don t cost money like reading a book instead of watching t.v., talking to one another instead of playing video games, listening to the children laugh instead of talking on the telephone, eating plain food instead of eating out. Remember that the purple candles stand for sorrow that we have done wrong. But, now we are joyful, because the time for the arrival of Jesus is almost here! Sunday- Our Father, thank you for letting us celebrate Jesus birthday again. Help us to be like him, so when people look at us they see goodness and beauty like we see in Jesus. Monday- Dear Jesus, help us to know you better, love you more, and follow your rules. When we look at the lights of the Christmas tree, help us to think that you are the true Light of the world. Help us to remember that you are with us to guide us and cheer us. Tuesday- O God, at times it is hard to remember you, especially around this time when we think of the decoration, Christmas cards, and gifts that we re going to receive. And sometimes, even though we have all these beautiful things around us and all the people around us, we still feel alone and scared. Help us to remember that it is because of you that we have this Christmas celebration and that you are always with us and we can trust in you to take care of us. Help us to truly believe that you will forgive our sins, give us new life, and look after us after we die. Wednesday- O God, before you sent Jesus to us, we were lost and alone. You showed us how much you loved us by sending Jesus to die on the Cross for our sins, and you asked us to share your love with others. During this time help us to spread your name to others by telling them about you and by showing them how you want them to live. Make us examples of your love. Thursday- Thank you, Lord, for the joy we feel because you are with us. May we share this joy with the people we meet at work, at school, at church, at the store, and everywhere. Friday- We thank you for the gifts you give us at Christmas, the gifts you can t put in a box with a ribbon on it. We thank you for the gift Christ, bringing us new life. For the gift of our home. For the gift of our dad, who works hard for us. For our mom, who does so many things for us. For the gifts of our brothers and sisters who are always there for us.
