Clip & Save Through the School Year!! Port Edwards Elementary School has been participating in programs that have brought money into our playground fund and have provided a wide variety of school products used in the classrooms. The money earned from the milk caps/bag tops program goes directly to the school s parent organization, PEPO (Port Edwards Parent Organization). We want to say THANK YOU to everyone in the community who has saved and clipped for these programs. You can help the elementary school when you Clip Box Tops Coupons from hundreds of General Mills Products found throughout local stores. We will collect submitted box tops and mail them into General Mills. General Mills will pay our school 10 cents for each box tops coupon redeemed. Also Kwik Trip s Nature s Touch Milk Moola. The program will only accept specially marked caps and bag tops that feature the Milk Moola Symbol. The school receives 5 cents for each cap or bag top. No milk caps from other companies are collected or redeemable. There will be a box top collection box in the information center of church. This will be an ongoing collection throughout the year. Thanks so much for your continued support. Together we can build a better school for our children. Submitted by Kathy McGrath

Education Committee News Sunday School The kids did a great job at the Christmas program and the Education committee would like to thank all of them for their hard work to make it a success. We would also like to thank all the parents and other congregation members that helped with practices. We received a lot of great feedback from everyone that had a chance to see the play. Hopefully we ll be able to post it soon on Facebook so those that missed it will be able to see it as well. Now that we are finished with the program, we are going to work on either a song for Easter or a short skit for them to perform for the congregation. Sunday school will not be in session on December 24 th and December 31 st but we ll be back in session on January 7 th to continue our winter curriculum. We hope the children of the congregation continue to come during the cold winter months, we have some great lessons to share! Below is the Sunday school schedule for teachers through the last session in May. Please remember that there must be 2 adults in the classroom when teaching so please find a partner to help you. If you can t find someone, please let one of us know on the committee and we will find someone for you. As always, we are extremely grateful for the help from the congregation in teaching the little ones. We have a lot of dried up paint, old crayons, missing items like youth scissors, staples and other items that we need to do crafts each Sunday. We are going to clean out the old items and replace with new ones. Thank you for keeping your spare coins to help us out with these fundraising efforts. The November noisy collection went to purchase new costumes for the Christmas program. The kids really like participating in this effort and like to interact with the members of the congregation. Thank you!!

Education Continued Volunteering We are always looking for people to help either through volunteering for Sunday school or youth group. If you are interested in helping, please let me know either through email, call or text. Otherwise, please get in contact with anyone on the Education Committee. Happy New Year!! Tiffany Haddow tiffanyhaddow@gmail.com Phone: 715-213-4454 (call or text) Education Committee Members Jennifer Swensen Crystal Sadler Rachel Lamb Tiffany Haddow Kali Malek Christian education plays an important role in the overall growth of our kids. Our Sunday program offers education for kids 4k 6 th grade, confirmation for 7 th and 8 th graders and our youth program for 7 th 12 th graders (when in session). I encourage all parents to give thought to bringing your kids to PEUMC for part of their overall Christian education. Kids are influenced heavily by outside sources and while much of it is positive, many times it s negative. Sunday school and youth group give our kids Biblical education and discussion about dealing with challenging situations they face as they get older. We want our kids to understand God s truths and apply them in life situations so they will grow up being strong and Christ-centered. Please consider bringing your kids to our programs as we have many dedicated volunteers ready to spend time with your children helping them grow in their Christian education. You don t have to be a member of the church to have children participate. We welcome all people!!

The Bethesda Thrift Shop closed on December 30 th. We regret that this had to happen, but with the sale of the mall, we had to close our store. We searched the community for another location but the size that we needed at a good location at a reasonable cost was not available and what we found could have possibly become a financial risk for Bethesda to continue to operate a store in Rapids. We thank all the faithful non-paid volunteers who worked thousands of hours for the past14 years. Thanks also to our donors and many wonderful customers. In the past 14 years, Bethesda profited more than 1.5 million dollars to help enhance the lives of the intellectually and physically disabled folks served by Bethesda. We thank you! The Bethesda Thrift Shop definitely was a positive part of this community and will be missed by many. Port Edwards United Methodist Church Sunday School Noisy Collection The Sunday School will be taking up a Noisy Container Collection The Noisy Collection will be the 2 nd Sunday of Every Month. Next Collection is Sunday, January 14 th 2018 BRING YOUR COLLECTION OF COINS TO DROP IN THE CONTAINER.

Dave s Ponderings First of all, I want to thank you for the Christmas gift I received from your very generous donations. We are very fortunate to be at Port Edwards in such a scenic part of Wisconsin. What a joy it is during my morning devotions to look out and see the waters of the Wisconsin River in full view along with the sight of eagles from time to time. As we begin a new year together, I have been reminded through readings and my last Confirmation class the importance of your ministry. In confirmation class, we were reminded that a lay person means a minister that has not been ordained. Each of one of you is a minister since you have been baptized into the body of Christ. This became very clear to me when I recently read a book entitled, When the Members are the Missionaries. The book contains a series of interviews with people who are missionaries at home, at work, in the local community, in the wider world and at church. I realize that when we speak of ministry, our focus is often upon what we do inside the church walls; what are the ministries that we are involved together. But you are also in ministry and service to your families and neighborhood and community. Sometimes the church and church leadership has forgotten this important work. If the world is truly going to be impacted and changed, it will occur by those who are helping to impact the lives and situations outside of the walls of our church. Certainly, the church can have a tremendous impact in how we can live for Christ. However, all that we do together in the life of our congregation; worship, study, social activities should also help train us and strengthen us for the wider world. I look forward to a new year in ministry with you. May God lead us and guide us into greater service in Christ s name. Blessings, Pastor Dave
