Rev. Mike Winters Pastor Dr. Ray Jones, Jr. Pastor Emeritus WISE BAPTIST NEWS A PUBLICATION FOR MEMBERS AND FRIENDS OF WISE BAPTIST CHURCH A place for faith and fellowship with family and friends. Dear church family and friends, 2016 is over and 2017 is under way! The world is different now than it was on Jan. 1, 2016. Our lives have changed. Some changes we did not choose or want. Other changes were more positive. Regardless of what did or did not happen, here we are. What does God want for us in 2017? What is His will for us as individuals and as a church? God s will is sometimes thought of as a detailed plan that is concealed from us. We must discover His will or we will be out of His will and on a course that is contrary to God. This implies that God is making it hard for us to know His will. The very opposite is true. God wants us to know His will. Every verse, every page, and every chapter in the Bible shows that God wants us to know His will. God s will is what He wants for us. How do we know what He wants? We know what God wants when we know Him better. Therefore, it all boils down to knowing God better. Then, the question becomes how we can know God better. My current sermon series is entitled Knowing God. We can know God better through worship, our daily spiritual walk, our service, fellowship, witness and practice of our faith. Romans 12:1-2 says, I appeal to you, therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. We will NOT automatically cancel our activities because Wise County or Norton City schools are closed. The decision to cancel our activities will be made no later than 2:00 pm and will be communicated through email, website, Facebook, and phone calls. Your safety is most important. Please don t attempt to get out if the weather/conditions are dangerous. SUNDAY SCHOOL AND WORSHIP We will have Sunday School and Worship even during inclement weather. The exception to this will be if our building is without power. Our Pastor and Building Stewards will make that decision, if necessary. In the event that our services are cancelled, communication will be sent via email, website, Facebook and phone calls. CHILDREN S CHOIR If Wise County Schools are closed or dismiss early due to weather, children s choir will NOT meet. COMMITTEE MEETINGS / SMALL GROUPS The chairperson or leader of the affected committee or group will make this decision and will be responsible for letting everyone know.

A special thank you to Ron & Vickie Swindall for sharing special music with us on Sunday morning! With all that Ron has been through this past year, it is wonderful that he could start the new year sharing with us in worship! Choir practice has begun & will continue on Wednesday evenings at 7:45pm. New members are always welcome come & join us! Peace and love, Donna Wise Baptist Church Youth Ministry On January 2, youth, parents and youth leaders met at Pastor Mike s and Terry s home. There was food, fellowship and future planning. A big reason for the meeting was to confirm that Wise Baptist Church is committed to our youth and will provide ministry to and through them. Leigh loves our youth and is missed. The youth ministry will not and cannot look the same. No two people are the same or do things in the same way. There will be some grief at every youth event, because Leigh s absence will be felt. It is wise to acknowledge and allow for that grief. A good way to honor her legacy is to build upon her ministry with our young people. Though there is sadness, we look forward with hopefulness. Plans were made at the meeting last evening to continue the Sunday youth Bible study/fellowship time/ meal. Mark Collins will be leading Bible study this Sunday night (Jan. 8) & Susan Mullins will be providing the meal. Other plans and events being made include: the youth Super Bowl party, a Winter Ski Trip and a Spring Lock-In. Stay tuned for upcoming news & events! A good youth program has a balance of spiritual growth, fellowship/recreation, and service. Those elements will continue. The commitment of Wise Baptist to our youth continues. Most importantly, the love and guidance of God continues.
