Safeguard the Children PARENTS SHOULD AVOID LECTURING AND START TALKING Lecturing teenagers may feel like the right path to take, especially if they are starting to develop bad habits or make poor choices, but lecturing is usually the least effective way to get your message across. Children tend to see lectures as condescending and abstract, and this detracts from the wisdom and advice you are trying to provide. Instead of lecturing, try to engage your child in calm, open conversation that addresses the issue while allowing you both to talk about what s going on. For more tips and a copy of the VIRTUS article Communication Tip No. 11: Why Lecturing Doesn t Work, email jvienna@la-archdiocese.org or call 213-637-7227. THANK YOU! Holy Family Service Center I have a son, who is a... not an ordinary form of schizophrenia, but clearly, cannot take care of himself. And the great fear then, of all parents is, when the parents die, who takes care of your child? And the answer is: they become homeless. James D. Volunteers for the hot breakfast ministry are required to pass a test for safe food handling procedures. The test is available on line for a fee of $15.
