Harbor Light Pcph.org Presbyterian Church of Palm Harbor March 2019 From Pastor Bruce You know the old saying: nothing in this world can be said to be certain, except death and taxes. This is one of the many pithy bits of wisdom attributed to Ben Franklin. You ve also probably heard that at parties or other social gatherings we re not supposed to talk about politics or religion. (I have no idea who came up with that one; probably not a senator or pastor). Probably even more sadly necessary and almost certain to bring a worship service to a grinding halt is the talk of wait for it money. Admittedly, it s not always easy to talk about money; more importantly it s not easy to report once again that were coming up short. But we are. In 2018, we started off with a $7,300.00 deficit at the end of January. That projected to an end of year deficit of $14,000.00 which turned out to be $24,000.00. As we reported at the Congregational Meeting a couple weeks ago, 2019 is also off to an even more sluggish start: at the end of January we were $12,500.00 behind with a projected $22,000.00 shortfall for 2019. You re not alone in being concerned. In our February meeting of the Session, we talked about this a great deal, realized the necessity of action and to that end the Session will spend Saturday March 16 addressing this. We covet your prayers. We covet God s wisdom and discernment. Following our March 16 meeting we will share the summary and results as well as what comes next. Grace and peace in Christ Jesus our Lord, Pastor Bruce A Safe Harbor where the Light of Christ Jesus directs all who are adrift to anchor themselves in Him. March 2019 Creating Connections Through Christ Page 4 ALL WOMEN INVITED On Saturday, April 6, the women of P.C.P.H. will again host the Lenten Communion Breakfast. This has been a tradition here for 34 years, inviting women from our area Presbyterian churches. This has been an uplifting service with catered breakfast with between 75 to 100 women attending. Our speaker this year will be the Rev. Lissa Bradford who is a Chaplain with HOSPICE and currently serving as Pulpit Supply for the Church on the Bayou. Because we serve Communion around each table, we need Elders or Deacons--so--if I haven't already asked you or if you are new to us and are able to serve in that capacity, please give me a call. As usual, we need for all to sign up and if you are bringing a guest, please give us her name also as we make name tags for all attendees. Sign-up sheets will be available in the Narthex and just outside of Fellowship Hall beginning the second week of March with a cut-off date of Thursday, March 28. Any questions, please call me (home: 727-787-5791). Thanks, Joan Ruddle PCPH Women s Missions As a reminder of the PCPH Women's Missions, we are asking your support for greatly needed non-food items for F.E.A.S.T. Many of the requested items are those that cannot be purchased with food stamps. As previously suggested, you can purchase many of these items at Dollar General or Dollar Tree at a nominal cost. For the month of March we are asking for toilet tissue.
