APRIL 1, 2012 P AGE 3 FROM THE PASTOR... My dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, I pray that you take time throughout this Holy Week to participate in the many beautiful Liturgies that we will have this week. Please enter into the mystery of our Lord s Passion, Death and Glorious Resurrection. I would like to invite you to participate with Bishop Lennon, the priests and deacons, and other members of our Diocese in the celebration of the Chrism Mass on Tuesday, April 3, at 7 p.m. in the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist. It is at this Mass that the oils that will be used in the Sacraments this year will be blessed. It is also the time when the priests renew their priestly promises. On Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. we will be celebrating the Liturgy known as Tenebrae. It is a very beautiful praying of the psalms as lights are gradually extinguished. We, through the prayer, come to see the darkness of a world void of the Light of Christ. Holy Thursday s Mass of the Lord s Supper will include the washing of feet, symbolizing the act of selfless service of our Blessed Lord. Following Mass there will be a procession of the Blessed Sacrament to the Altar of Repose. Adoration will continue in the Church until Midnight. NOTE CHANGE IN GOOD FRIDAY CELEBRATION OF THE LORD S PASSION Good Friday s Stations of the Cross will be at 12:10 p.m. The Celebration of the Lord s Passion, with veneration of the Cross and Holy Communion will take place at 3:00 p.m. Please note the change from the original schedule that was mailed to your home. The Living Stations witnessed by our young adults will take place in the PFC at 7:30 p.m. Holy Saturday s Mass will begin at 9:30 p.m. this year. It is at this most beautiful Mass that the new fire is lit and the Paschal Candle is brought into the Church. We are also very happy to be having adult baptisms and the reception of individuals into Full Communion with the Church. Please come and be part of the beautiful Liturgies of Holy Week. I d also like to remind you of the remaining times for confession: Monday, April 2 ~ 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. & 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 4 ~ 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. and after Tenebrae until 9:00 p.m. NO CONFESSIONS WILL BE HEARD DURING THE TRIDUUM (Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday). Finally, please plan on bringing your Easter Basket to Church on Holy Saturday at 2:00 p.m. for our food blessing. May God s blessings be yours this Holy Week. Father Ireland ATTENTION HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS... We are still in need of high-school-aged young people to be part of our parish s Living Stations which take place at 7:30 p.m. on Good Friday in the Parish Family Center (PFC). There will be one extended practice starting at 1:30 p.m. on Good Friday afternoon and continuing until Stations begin. We will have plenty of pizza and beverages to go around for the dinner break. If you have been part of this in the past, please consider joining the group again. If you need more information, or if you would like to volunteer to be part of this year s cast of characters, please call Father Ireland (216.382.7601) as soon as possible. Father Ireland will be flying to the Holy Land and Italy with a tour group from the U.S. Would you like to join him? The dates are April 1 to 14, 2013, and the cost is $4,699 per person for air and land costs. The tour will take you to Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Galilee, Capernaum, Rome, Tuscany, Florence, Assisi, and Venice. You can view the entire trip and itinerary at www.proximotravel.com. PAGE 4 Cathedral Square OFFICE OF THE BISHOP 129/2012 27 March 2012 My dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, As we prepare for the most sacred time of our church year, I know that many of you have questions about the recent decrees from the Congregation for the Clergy in Rome regarding the closing of certain parishes. Accordingly, I want to provide a brief update on the prayerful and thoughtful process I am taking as your bishop to act in the interests of our church, our diocese and all of its people. As I hope you can appreciate, this is a very complex matter with no easy or perfect solution. With the help of a number of advisors- including members of the clergy, laity and experts in church law- I am carefully studying and seeking to fully understand the decrees. I can assure you that this is not nearly as clear-cut as it may appear on the surface. Although the decrees are brief in length, they are deep in underlying meaning and I continue to receive significant input and clarification. While I am aware that there are many who hold strong points of view- one way or the otherabout what course of action I should take, I have not yet formulated a decision. Thus, no one should speculate or try to read anything between the lines of my message to you today. I assure you that I will share with you the rationale behind whatever action I eventually take. Be assured that I will act fully in accordance with the teachings of the Catholic Church and with the utmost respect for its governance and authority. I pray that God will guide me and I ask for your prayers. During this joyous Easter Season let us celebrate the sacrifice that Jesus made for us and stand firm in faith and hope as one body in Christ. Please be assured of my continued prayers for each of you and your loved ones. Sincerely yours in Christ, + Richard Lennon Bishop of Cleveland 1404 East Ninth Street, Sixth Floor : Cleveland, OH 44114-1722 : (216) 696-6525 Ext 2030 : Fax (216) 696-6547

We all are tempted to do or say things that may hurt others and Lent is the time to strengthen us against temptation and evil. If we appreciate God s gifts and goodness, we can then see the good in others and find temptation less enticing. Grades 3, 5, & 7 will take writing proficiencies Tuesday, April 3. On Holy Thursday, the Academy students will take part in an allday religious retreat. This Day of Reflection begins with a silent entrance into the building. The entire student body will witness a travelling Stations of the Cross, followed by a reflective presentation of the Holy Land, given by Mrs. Freas in the gym. Next,, via the TV broadcast,, a Breaking of the Bread service will take place. Students will listen to a reading on the Last Supper and then receive some bread and juice, as they think about what Jesus did. Our day concludes with a closing prayer at 1:15, and vacation begins with an early dismissal at 1:30.
