While congregation and rest of Altar Party remain kneeling, Celebrant stands and ascends to Altar. 4. Deacon goes to Credence Table and hands container of ashes to Celebrant. Deacon returns to position and kneels. 5. Celebrant reads collect for the ashes C. Imposition of Ashes 1. Celebrant imposes ashes on the Deacon and Sub Deacon. 2. Celebrant returns ashes container to the Altar and then kneels in place while the Deacon imposes ashes on him. 3. Sub Deacon, immediately after receiving the ashes, places the center kneeler in place, closes the Altar gate and takes a seat on the Gospel side. 4. Celebrant and Deacon impose ashes on server and congregation. 5. Psalm 51 a. When there are no more people standing in line for the ashes, the Sub Deacons leads the congregation in the Psalm saying, Kneeling, let us say in unison Psalm 51, found on page 3 of the bulletin. Sub Deacon moves to place in front of the Altar and kneels and begins Psalm. b. During the reading of Psalm 51, the Celebrant and Deacon clean their fingers and move to their places in front of the Altar and kneel D. Litany of Penitence IV. Holy Communion A. Altar Book: 1. Deacon reads Gospel from the lectern. B. Immediately following Sermon there is a short reflection and Deacon and Sub Deacon return to the Sanctuary. C. Call to a Holy Lent 1. Sacred Ministers take their places facing the Altar 2. Celebrant turns to congregation and reads 3. At conclusion of call, Altar Party kneels for time of silence 4. Set normal volume No instrumental music at this service a Capella Schedule 3 Ushers Offering collected as usual KEEP PEOPLE FLOWING TO ALTAR FOR IMPOSITION OF ASHES AND FOR HOLY COMMUNION. MC will open Baptistery door for Verger and choir to enter Usher need to open Baptistery door for exit and end of service I. Procession A. Verger leads 1 st Crucifer team and choir through Baptistery door as bell rings. B. When choir is in place, Verger moves to Chapel door and leads 2 nd Crucifer team and Altar Party in as usual for Sunday in Lent. LEM assigned in Chapel move to their seat immediately. LEM assigned in Baptistery moves to cross on center aisle, reverence, and cross to assigned seat in Baptistery. Remaining Altar Party ascends steps as usual and move to places at Altar Rail to reverence and enter Sanctuary. II. III. Entrance Rite A. Salutation: chanted penitential tone by Celebrant B. Collect of the Day: chanted penitential tone Liturgy of the Word A. Lessons 1. Lessons read as usual with Gospel Procession (May include reading in Spanish) 2. Immediately following Sermon there is a short reflection time while remaining seated. B. Call to a Holy Lent 1. Sacred Ministers move to places in front of Altar. 2. When altar rail is empty, Server opens gate and removes center kneeler. c.
