What Does It Mean To Renew the Spirit?

Transcription:

BODY The Greek word for body is seuma. We must always remember that our body is bound by time and space, whereas our spirit and soul are not. WHAT IS OUR BODY? Man s body was intended to be the temple for Elohim s Spirit. When we become Believers our body became a vessel to be used by Yah. Our body is only to be used for Yah s glory. The word psycho-somatic comes from the Greek words psuche and seuma, meaning soul-body relationship. (1Cor. 6:20) Body (flesh) is sarx in Greek. Rom. 12:1 I urge you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of Yahveh, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to Yahveh, {which is} your spiritual service of worship. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what the will of Yahveh is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect. Gal. 2:20 I have been crucified with Messiah and it is no longer I who live, but Messiah lives in me and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of Yahveh who loved me and delivered himself up for me THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE BLOOD AND THE BREATH There is an incredible relationship between the blood, (soul) and the breath, (spirit). The main organ that handles the breath is the lungs. The main organ that handles the blood is the heart. When your blood leaves your heart, it goes out the left side and goes to all the extremities of your body, providing the nourishment and oxygen your body needs to function. This blood leaves your heart, brilliant red, and it comes back bluish purple, laden with the impurities gathered from your system. It comes back a dark purple color due to the carbonic acid (impurities) it contains. The blood then goes through the lungs and gets purified. In turn, the color changes back to a brilliant red. After your blood leaves your lungs it again flows through your heart. When you exhale, the carbonic acid is released. The cycle repeats itself endlessly. The lungs cleanse your blood and replenishes it with life, which is contained in the oxygen. The breath of the lungs is the counterpart of the spirit, and the life, is in the blood. In other words the spirit purifies the soul. If your spirit is dead, like in an un-believer, your soul cannot be cleaned and purified, which is necessary to live a good life. This is a beautiful picture of how miraculous our Father designed the human body. That is why many use the word re-generated as well as born again when referring to the acceptance of Adonai and His Ruach HaKodesh (Holy Spirit) into their lives. ABRAHAM AND SARAH 1

The breath of the Holy Spirit, as related to the above explanation, is the reason Abram s name was changed by YHVH to Abraham when Abram and Yahveh made the Abrahamic Covenant. Gen. 17:5 No longer shall your name be called Abram, But your name shall be Abraham; For I will make you the father of a multitude of nations. Here we see that because YHVH made the covenant with Abram, He added an H sound, Hay (in Hebrew), to Abram. The reason being; to pronounce Abraham, one must breath out. The breath represents the Holy Spirit. This applied to Sarai also, who had her name changed to Sarah. Gen. 17:15 Then Yahveh said to Abraham, As for Sarai your wife, you shall not call her name Sarai, but Sarah {shall be} her name. -------- Not only is the flesh devoid of the spirit ; it also is directly opposed to the spirit. The Bible consequently asserts that the flesh lusts against the spirit, as literally stated in Gal. 5:17 For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please. The manifestations of the flesh are well-known. If a person is strict with himself and refuses to follow, as he once did, the desires of body and mind (Eph. 2:3), he will detect easily how defiled are these manifestations. The Galatian letter of Paul gives a list of these sins of the flesh, so that none can be mistaken: Gal. 5:19-21 Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you just as I have forewarned you that those who practice such things shall not inherit the kingdom of Yahveh. In these verses Paul makes it clear that the listed works of the flesh are very plain. Those who are truly willing to open their minds with understanding, will clearly recognize them. To ascertain whether one is of the flesh or not, he need only inquire himself if he is doing any of these works of the flesh. If we are doing even one of the above fleshly things, then we are still being lead by the works of the flesh. The simple pleasure of the presence of a work of the flesh proves the existence of the flesh in all of us. I believe the works of the flesh may be divided into five groups: 1) sinful temper and its peculiarities, such as enmity, strife, jealousy, and anger. 2) sinful supernatural communications with satanic forces, such as sorcery, witchcraft, satanism, and any and all other demonically influenced areas of belief. 3) sins which defile the body, such as sexual promiscuity, licentiousness, and unholy treatment of the Temple body. 4) sins such as selfishness, envy, hatred, and controlling spirits. 5) sins of party mentality, like drunkenness, and carousing and disrespect of the gift of life. This alone can be a test whereby a Believer may know whether or not a work is of the flesh. Whatever does not issue from waiting upon Yah, from depending upon the Holy Spirit, is unquestionably of the flesh. Whatever one decides according to his pleasure in lieu of seeking the will of Yah, emanates from the flesh. Whenever a heart of utter trust is lacking, there is the labor of the flesh. A carnal Believer is one who has been born anew and has Yah s life, but instead of overcoming his flesh, he is overcome by the flesh. We know the spirit of the fallen man is 2

dead, he is dominated by his soul and body. A carnal Believer, therefore, is one whose spirit has been quickened, but who still follows his soul and body unto sin. If a Believer remains in a carnal condition long after experiencing new birth, he hinders Yah s salvation from realizing its full potential and manifestation. Only when he is growing in grace, constantly governed by the spirit, can salvation be wholly wrought in him. Adonai has provided full salvation in Calvary for the regeneration of sinners and complete victory over the Believers old creation. THE PRIMARY FUNCTIONS OF OUR BODY: A vessel 1Ths. 4:4 that each of you know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor, 2Tim. 2:21 Therefore, if a man cleanses himself from these {things}, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified, useful to the Master, prepared for every good work. 2Cor. 4:10 always carrying about in the body the dying of Yeshua that the life of Yeshua also may be manifested in our body. An instrument A covering to fulfill the will of the spirit and soul. Rom. 6:12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body that you should obey its lusts, and do not go on presenting the members of your body to sin {as} instruments of unrighteousness; but present yourselves to Yahveh as those alive from the dead, and your members {as} instruments of righteousness to Yahveh. Rom. 6:19 I am speaking in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. For just as you presented your members {as} slaves to impurity and to lawlessness, resulting in {further} lawlessness, so now present your members {as} slaves to righteousness, resulting in sanctification. 1Cor. 6:19-20 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from Yahveh, and that you are not your own? For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify Yahveh in your body. 1Cor. 3:17 If any man destroys the temple of YHVH, YHVH will destroy him, for the temple of YHVH is holy, and that is what you are. *There are several theories on the function of the heart worth mentioning, they are: 1. What is in your heart is the result of your soul and your spirit coming together and agreeing upon. 2. Your heart is the decision center between your soul and spirit. The five senses of your body give their information to your brain, which then distributes the information to your heart, which then sends the information to either your soul or your spirit, depending on the influence of the Holy Spirit in your life. Our heart has two compartments; it is where the spirit and soul come together to form the inner man 1Sam. 16:7 But Adonai said to Samuel, Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for YHVH {sees} not as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but Adonai looks at the heart. HOW CAN OUR BODY BE AFFECTED? 3

Satan s demons want to have a body to dwell in, they must have one if they are to remain as his active secret agents. Demons require a body to function effectively. They prefer a human body but will take on an animal body if they have to. MANIFESTATIONS OF THE BODY If Yeshua is truly in your life, you will be known as a man or woman of YHVH. The way you present yourself and humble yourself to Ha Shem s desires will show everyone that you are truly walking close to the Father. You will have about you a kind of radiance that people will see and feel, that makes you stand out as a Believer. In the Bible it said that when Peter walked by, his very presence healed people. That s power! That is the result of a close walk with Yeshua! James 2:26 For just as the body without {the} spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead. THE BODIES FIVE SENSES The body is the instrument of our five senses, (hearing, touch, smell, taste, and sight). Our senses give neurological messages to the brain, and the brain deciphers what to do with these messages, sending the messages to all parts of our body for response. Our brain weights about 2 1/2 lbs. and has in it over 110 billion cells which work together to form our consciousness and self-consciousness. Our brain sends messages to our flesh/soul, and our fleshly soul makes a decision. The body shows the effects of the decision. Yeshua and Adam were tempted in three fleshly manners. These three points which incorporate every type of temptation that comes to mankind are found in 1John 2:16 For all that is in the world, the LUST OF THE FLESH and the LUST OF THE EYES and the boastful PRIDE OF LIFE, is not from the Father, but is from the world. also 1Cor. 10:13. Paul tells us not to trust our flesh because it will get us in trouble. Phil. 3:2-3 Beware of the dogs, beware of the evil workers, beware of the false circumcision; for we are the {true} circumcision, who worship in the Spirit of YHVH and glory in Messiah Yeshua and put no confidence in the flesh, BODY POWER If we are not committed Believers walking close to Adonai, our bodies can and will be used by Satan s secret agents, his demon spirits. These demon spirits have supernatural power that can be expressed through our physical body. Many demonized people are stronger than normal and use this strength for various selfish reasons. This strength is usually manifested from the demon spirits of: pride, lust, selfishness, ego, and self-centredness. The individuals know there is a force within them, but are not willing to let go of it because of all the advantages they receive from being demonized. These people are living for the moment and for this world, and are not considering the eternity of life in Hell. Most Believers don t realize that when called upon for appropriate reasons, the Holy 4

Spirit will give them supernatural strength beyond anything Satan can come up with. Under these emergency, or witnessing type circumstances, Elohim s Holy Spirit gives us whatever we require to bring glory to the kingdom of YHVH. This physical strength of course, will only be given to an appropriate person for the appropriate situation. Samson was a great example when he tore the pillars out from under the Temple. SICKNESS DUE TO CURSES, DEMONS AND FOOD I strongly believe that diseases and abnormalities of the body can be caused by curses and demon spirits; to what proportion I am not sure. It is common for people who are sick to become well immediately after having their curses removed, or being delivered. This, I am sure, is not a coincidence. It seems to me a shame that our hospitals and mental institutions today are filled with people who need not be there simply because they do not believe in Yahveh. I don t contend that we don t need doctors and hospitals, but it is clear to me that if we did what the instruction book tells us to do most hospitals would be empty. (Exod. 15:26) Demons can and will exploit physical problems and abnormalities in an individual, and use these circumstances to have domination over the host body. A demon may take advantage of a persons fondness for food, for example, and cause/help them to become obese. This same principal can be used for various conditions, whether they are mentally or physically noticeable. Demons don t respond to medication because they are spiritual beings, only the body will respond. Sin causes curses, demons attach themselves to curses. Yeshua referred to sin as a serpent in: Luke 10:19 Behold, I have given you authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall injure you. In the following scripture Yeshua means that sin will bite you by means of demons from Satan. Eccl. 10:8 He who digs a pit may fall into it, and a serpent may bite him who breaks through a wall. 2Cor. 7:1 Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of Yahveh. Defilement/filthiness is referring to demon presence. We are to cleanse ourselves from the defilement and filth of sin, by hitting the mark, which is the Torah. In the Torah, El Gibor spoke clearly to Moses about curses in the form of plagues, from El Gibor Himself. Deut. 29:22 Now the generation to come, your sons who rise up after you and the foreigner who comes from a distant land, when they see the plagues of the land and the diseases with which Adonai has afflicted it, will say, In 2Sam. 12:15 we see that Adonai Himself struck a child with sickness so it would die because of the bad deeds of its parents. Even in Matthew Yeshua healed a paralytic man who s sin had made him sick. (Matt. 9:4-8) Many illnesses are the direct result of curses; taking communion in an unworthy manner, results in a curse, as stated in 1Cor. 11:28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup. For he who eats and drinks, eats and drinks judgment to himself, if he does not judge the body rightly. For this reason many among you are weak and sick, and a number sleep. This is referring to spiritual death 5

in most cases. Exod. 15:26 And He said, If you will give earnest heed to the voice of Adonai your Yahveh, and do what is right in His sight, and give ear to His commandments, and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have put on the Egyptians; for I, Adonai, am your healer. Adonai makes it obvious here that in order to remain healthy, all we have to do is follow His commandments. Exod. 23:25-26 But you shall serve Adonai your Yahveh, and He will bless your bread and your water; and I will remove sickness from your midst. There shall be no one miscarrying or barren in your land; I will fulfill the number of your days. Luke 9:42 And while he was still approaching, the demon dashed him {to the ground,} and threw him into a convulsion. But Yeshua rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the boy, and gave him back to his father. A combination of sin and demonic problems are seen here. Luke 6:17-18 And He descended with them, and stood on a level place; and {there was} a great multitude of His disciples, and a great throng of people from all Judea and Jerusalem and the coastal region of Tyre and Sidon, who had come to hear Him, and to be healed of their diseases; and those who were troubled with unclean spirits were being cured. One unique characteristic of Yeshua s ministry, from its very beginning to end, is that He never seperated the healing of people s sickness and the removal of demons. Deliverance was part of the healing and preaching process. I believe that any sickness or disease that is un-curable is of a demonic source. In Mark 1:32-34 it makes it clear to us At evening when the sun had set, they brought to him all who were sick and those who were demonized. And the whole city was gathered together at the door. Then He healed many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons; and He did not allow the demons to speak, because they knew Him. In verse 39 it continues And He was preaching in their synagogues throughout all Galilee, and casting out demons. Throughout the scriptures, when Yeshua met people, He said: Peace be with you. There is much more to that than we realize. Yeshua said this because He knew that one of man s biggest problems was that of FEAR AND HATRED, so He always comforted those around Him, and wished peace upon them. Fear and hatred are evil spirits, they are the result of what a chronic occurrence of something can do to our body and soul. If it affects one it will inevitably affect the other. As long as there is dis-ease in your thoughts and mind, there will be disease in your body. The familiar verse, you reap what you sow, can be easily related to your body. If your mind and soul are under constant stress from doing and saying things that you know are not proper, or from not following to the best of your abilities the Ten Commandments, your body will pay the price. Your body reveals the inward activity of your soul. (Mar 23/16) Jerry Hennig 6
