NEXT GENERATION MINISTRY by: Timothy Laurent, Minister to the Next Generation As we enter into the fall there are many exciting things going on with Overflow Children s Ministry and DIVE Youth Ministry! Each ministry is seeing new volunteers and teachers step in to teach and lead (which makes me very thankful!) and each ministry will also soon have a fresh new logo to show off and be proud of! But beyond that, our youth and children are being taught week by week about Jesus and no matter what else happens, this will always be the case. In October alone we will have outreach opportunities for our youth and younger children, as well as a youth fall retreat and other events not to mention getting our Christmas production practice underway! We are in a consistent need of volunteers to look after our nursery and 1-2 year olds. If you feel that the Lord could use you in this area, please see me (Tim) or Jane Pierce as soon as possible! Thank you for your continued support of our youth and children. Tim From the Media Messenger... As a former librarian/media specialist I know the importance of reading during the summer months. This summer our library sponsored a reading program during the month of July and a portion of the month of August. Boys and girls were asked to read for fifteen minutes each day or have their parents read to them. Each day they read they earned a sticker and the goal was to earn 30 stickers. Several of our children met the goal. Three of our children did far more than expected and earned a Barnes and Noble gift card. Congratulations to Zayne Howze, Alayna Lanier and Scarlett Vinot. Special thanks go to Dolores Sharpe and Pat Carella for making our party a success. We also want to thank Texas Roadhouse and Franco s NY Pizza in Garden City for providing reading incentives for our boys and girls. Congratulations to all who earned awards: Hayden Broz Julianna Lanier Maddox Gandy Rayne Stoll Mason Parker Landon Broz Josie Lanier Skyler Stoll Kinzie Stoll Katelynn Parker Alayna Lanier Madelyn Gandy River Stoll Zayne Howze Scarlett Vinot OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD SHOEBOX PACKING PARTY and HOTDOG LUNCH on Saturday, October 6 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. It s not too late to donate money so supplies can be purchased for the boxes and there is money for shipping. For every $27 donated, $9 will be used for shipping to the final destination. All donations are appreciated. This isn t to replace the boxes that we pack ourselves!

On Monday, October 1 we start signing children up in our Christmas gift program and families for the Thanksgiving meal.. For Christmas the parent/guardian list their children with age, sex, sizes and gift preferences. Then we give the names and information to several local churches and their members buy the gifts and return them to SSHH. Then we distribute them to the parents so they will have them on Christmas morning. Together we make some very happy, relieved parents. During the week of Thanksgiving, families return to get a turkey and all the fixings so they can prepare their Thanksgiving dinner in their home.
