September 6, 2014 Our BIGGEST outreach event of the year. We NEED you to participate in this year s carnival. We need: * hot dogs and hamburgers (last year we gave away over 1,000 of each) * buns for all of them * folks to cook and bring trays of ethnic delights (food) * cans of soda (cans only) - bottles of water * talented folks for the talent show * folks to help set up at 9:00 AM * folks to help clean up at 4:00 PM * folks to serve food This year we have over 30 health care providers and organizations participating in the Health Fair part of the Carnival - PLUS we have the big double bounce house coming. It is gonna be a WOW day - be a part - get to know other folks at church - have a blast together with our community. Sign up sheets are on the back wall of the church.

Confirmation Class First Session - Saturday - October 4-11:00 AM - Students + Parents What is Confirmation? Confirmation is a two-year process of deepening the faith of our young people age 13 and older. One year studies the big stories of the Bible and the second year looks at our Lutheran roots. Confirmation is an IMPORTANT part of the faith life of our young people - and it s fun too. Taught by our own Bianca Erriah, this year s class begins on October 4 with a session that includes parents, or guardians; as we lay out the schedule for the year and the class expectations. No need to sign up - just show up on October 4 at 11:00 AM Sunday s Kids (Sunday School) restarts - Sunday - September 14 at 10:00 AM Don t let your kids miss another moment! Second Saturday starts the second Saturday of October October 11 at 10:00 AM Second Saturday is a day of service - EVERY month - on the Second Saturday There will be projects for young and old - for the skilled and and those lacking skills - that means there will be things for everyone to do There is NO BETTER way to serve God - and there is NO BETTER way to get to know people than by working alongside them in God s name. Guest Preacher September 14 Rev. David Kuck Rev. Dr. David Kuck is the ELCA missionary currently sponsored by Our Saviour. Dr. Kuck and his wife have served many years at the University of the West Indies in Kingston, Jamaica; working with pastors-in-training for churches throughout the Caribbean, not limited to the Lutheran Church. Pastor Bob first met Dr. Kuck on his first trip to Guyana in 1995 and since then has kept in contact with the Kucks. Dr. Kuck preached here a number of years ago, before he was our sponsored missionary. What is a sponsored missionary? This means that a portion of the money given in offering is given to support this particular ministry. When John and Haruko Hoyle, former members of Our Saviour, were serving as ELCA missionaries in Japan, we supported their ministry. Now that they are no longer serving in this way, Dr. Kuck seemed an obvious choice. Our Saviour pilgrimage to the Holy Land October 2015 Join us on a once-in-a-lifetime 11 day tour of the Holy Land and Jordan next October. Led by Pastor Bob and Fiona Sukhnandan, this tour will take us to: Tel Aviv - Masada - Beer Sheba - Bethlehem - Tiberias - Sea of Galilea Golan Heights - Nazareth - three days in Jerusalem - Jordan River - Caesarea - and Petra - to name just a few As of this writing, all the details have not been finalized - check the church web site for full details and links to our tour company s web site for full descriptions of the tour. The church web site will be the ONLY place with all the information. Price will be approximately $3,000 per person (double occupancy) plus airfare. We will need a deposit of $1,000 by December 26, 2014 to hold your place on this tour. We also expect you to participate in a few team-building sessions prior to the trip. Note: this is a very active trip with long days and lots of walking.

Worship Assistants Present & Future 1) Training Dates Serving God is what we are about - serving better should always be a goal - learning more, so we can serve better should be embedded in our DNA as Christians. That is why we are changing the way we do trainings in the coming year for both existing leaders and those who are ready to step up into new roles within the church. ALL worship assistants and leaders in the church will now need to attend a training session for each ministry - once every TWO years. To facilitate the continued growth of our leadership, trainings will be offered three times each year. Some trainings have also been shortened to 1/2 hour in length. We hope you will consider being a part of those who make this church happen - it takes a lot of volunteers to keep this church running smoothly - we hope you will step up. Trainings are for ALL existing worship leaders and those who are desiring to serve. Worship Assistants Present & Future 2) Worship Assistant Schedules Starting with the September schedules, we will no longer be mailing schedules every month to every worship assistant. This has become a very expensive and a very labor intensive process - one that we no longer see the need to maintain. Here is the NEW plan: * every month - every worship assistant will receive an email just for them - * included in the email will be a direct link to the church web site page where the schedule resides * from here, you can look at the schedule, or print a copy for yourself * every week that you are scheduled, you will receive a personal email from the church office, as well as a phone call from the church to remind you * if you cannot serve, please call the CHURCH OFFICE at least a week prior to the date you are scheduled so we can find a replacement. * please also remember that the schedules are ALWAYS posted on the church web site under the <Resources> tab - pull down the menu to the <Downloads> link - that will take you directly to the schedule * you can REALLY help by making certain that the church office has your current email address - and that you actually check your email :)
