Dear Friends in Christ, This is known as Good Shepherd. This is because of the Gospel that we had heard where Jesus tells us: I am the good shepherd. He truly is. Jesus is the Lord who guides us as we follow Him. As He continues on in the Gospel, Jesus said: I know mine and mine know me Jesus knows what we are made of and what we need. In the end of the Gospel, Jesus tells us that He has the power to lay down His life, and the power to take it up again. This is why we celebrate His resurrection. In the First Reading this day from the Acts of the Apostles, Saint Peter states it best as he said: He is the stone rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone. Once again, Jesus is the cornerstone that guides and protects us and leads us to verdant pastures namely, the Kingdom of God! LET THE CHURCH SAY: AMEN! ALLELUIA! (Note: I reported on the death of our fellow parishioner, Mr. Paul Frankovich, last week. But I failed to mention one family member so I am re-publishing this notice with my apologies) It is my sad duty to announce to you the death of Mr. Paul Frankovich. Paul died in the Lord on April 6, 2018. His funeral Mass was held here at St. Francis de Sales on Wednesday, April 11. Paul is survived by his brothers, Joseph (Beverly) Frankovich and James (Laurel) Frankovich and his sisters, Clara (Richard) Grall, Mary (Wayne) Gonder and Barbara Smith as well as other family members. Let us pray for all our deceased and for comfort for the families. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them Amen. Last weekend, one of our young students was confirmed in a ceremony held at St. Peter Cathedral, Marquette. Mason Santi, was confirmed by Bishop John Doerfler. Over the next couple of weeks, other students from our Faith Formation program will be confirmed. I learned that one is going to Sault Ste. Marie this weekend and two others will be in Iron Mountain on April 29. Let us pray for these special young people as they confirm their commitment to follow Christ. I also want to announce that we had First Reconciliation last weekend for our children who are preparing for First Communion on May 6 th. This is a special celebration for families and we should continue to pray for them! This Tuesday, I will be going to Dallas, Texas along with our school principal, Don Erickson, and two lay people, our fellow parishioners Rosemary McCormick and Mary Ellen Debelak. We will be participating in the Amazing Parish program. I had first heard about this program from Bishop Doerfler a couple of years ago. However, I was unable to attend at that time because I was still relatively new to the area and wanted to get myself settled here and learn more about the city, the parish, etc.. Last year, however, I was at a program in Sault Ste. Marie and heard about the Amazing Parish program and how it transformed not only the parish, but the pastor and the parishioners. It had taken me a bit of time to reflect on and discern who I would take with me if I ever went. After much prayer and contemplation, I selected the aforementioned people to accompany me on this trip. In October, I was selected along with another pastor in our diocese to attend the conference in Dallas. I will be away from the parish from Tuesday, April 24 and returning on Saturday, April 28. It is my most fervent hope that the Amazing Parish program will truly enhance our parish and our school. You won t see results immediately (like within the next week of my return) but you will see results. I intend on following through with this and helping to make our parish more Amazing! Before I close, an update about our Apologetics Course: At this time, I am presently awaiting our packet from Mr. John Martignoni. He was on EWTN a week ago on a Friday night at about 5:30, but I caught only a few minutes of the show. He s tremendous! I hope to catch him on EWTN again. That guy really knows how to defend the faith and the best thing is that he s going to help us to through his series Blue Collar Apologetics. Stay tuned That s it for now. Our story continues. APRIL 22ND, 2018 GOOD SHEPHERD SUNDAY Attention all parishioners! Our next Intergenerational Session will be called Cong ratulations to our young people who celebrated their First Reconciliation this past Saturday. $ 50 Ann Sangraw $ 25 Mark Bullard $ 15 Jeani Dalgord $ 10 Cindy Smith THIS WEEK IN OUR BIBLE STUDY We learned the early church consisted of people who prayed and fasted as a way to stay focused on God. We should follow their example before making any serious decisions fast to shut out the world, pray to seek God s will. God has a plan for each one of us. Through fasting and prayer, we stay tuned in to God so we can discern what choices to make - choices that will allow us to follow his plan. After all, His Way leads to eternal life with Him in Heaven. This was done during their First Reconciliation/ First Eucharist Retreat at Divine Infant. Students were there from 9:30am 5:00pm and participated in many activities throughout the day including celebrating their First Reconciliation. They made unleavened bread and parents came and helped them make their First Eucharist Banners. The Retreat ended with Mass at 4pm. Please remember these youngsters in your prayers as they finalize their preparations to receive their First Holy Eucharist on May 6 th!
