An Invitation: Is God Calling You? Lent is a time for getting closer to God through sacrifice and prayer. The Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius have provided a way to deepen our prayer and reflection for over 500 years. Many who embrace and practice the Exercises find that the meditation and reflection provide a sense of peace that leads to stronger personal relationships, better decision-making, and a closer connection to God. Our Ignatian Spirituality group will be providing an introduction to the Exercises through Lightworks this Lent, with our program continuing on February 14 and running through March 13. Each session begins with a talk, followed by small group sessions to learn the basics of Ignatian meditation. 2/14 An Ignatian Perspective on Sin 2/21 Our Purpose in Creation 2/28 Accepting Ourselves as Sinners 3/6 Unearthing God s Plan for Us 3/13 Christ as a Model for our Conversion All sessions will be held in the Loughry Room beginning at 3:00 p.m. and ending by 4:30. Please consider joining us for any sessions of interest. To learn more, please email us at Runzim@yahoo.com. Social Justice & Service St. Joseph Catholic Church International Sharing Ministry A Simple Supper Chew for Peru A bowl of rice, a modest piece of chicken, a small serving of vegetables and a piece of fruit for many of us, this is a meager meal, one of fasting and restraint. But for the children living in extreme poverty in Huaro, Peru, this could be the only meal of the day, and so a blessing, a feast. In the spirit of this Year of Mercy, the International Sharing Ministry invites you to share in the 3rd Annual A Simple Supper Chew for Peru to celebrate St. Joseph s work in Peru and the children we serve. To show our solidarity with these children we will recreate their dining experience, to take a break from our lives and walk in their shoes. After dinner, performers from the Peruvian Folk Dance Center will transport us to the Andes as they perform cultural dances from the region, and teach us a few steps too. This humble dinner is gratis and open to everyone. The International Sharing Ministry will gratefully accept good-will offerings at the event and all donations will go toward fund- February 23 to come; sign up at stjoseph.ivolunteer.com. Huaro in the parish s newly constructed instrument workshop. Andean handicrafts, accessories and textiles will also be part Letter from the Sharing in Peru Ministry In this Year of Mercy we are called to feed, visit, and comfort our neighbors. Thanks to the generous support of our parish, the International Sharing Ministry is able to answer this call for children living in extreme poverty in Huaro, Peru. Since 2013, St. Joseph s has partnered with the Jesuits to fund a much-needed construction project in Huaro that will work to elevate the overall quality of life for the children living in this remote and isolated region of Peru. Through this project the Jesuits will have the space and resources they need to provide a daily, nutritious meal and safe haven to more than 120 children every day. Together, we all made it happen: the Jesuits dreamed it, the community supported it with resources, builders, architects and workers, and we, at St. Joseph s, provided the funding to make it happen. This building is so much more than the brick and mortar that holds it together, it is a symbol of caring, compassion and connection with our brothers and sisters in Christ, a continent away. Please help us meet our goal by supporting our efforts these next months through Change for Change, and come to our 3rd Help us reach our goal and answer the call of the Year of Mercy. 4
