February Volunteers Reader: Cindy Sauer Greeters: Roger & Cleo Johnson Lund Newsletter February 2012 Love Is Grande! February has become the love month with a date specifically dedicated for celebrating love. I think there are more weddings in June, but I wonder if there isn t more engagements in February? (Guys, hang in there and don t stop reading. I promise not to get too mushy.) The Bible has a lot to say about love. I went to one of my favorite Bible research websites called www.biblegateway.com and did a love word search. Up popped 687 verses. I did the same for sins. There were only 278. Love wins out. We are in need of volunteers for the month of March, please sign up on the bulletin board in the entry. Thank You! Sunday Coffee servers: February 5: Jay & JoNell Richards February 12: Mark & Barb Beug February 19: Vince & Donna Root February 26: Arnie & Linda Kiehl According to the Bible, who is the greatest lover of all time? David? Solomon? The Queen of Sheba? Actually, it is God! God s love is so grand, so deep, so infinite, and so pure that, without a doubt, He is the ultimate lover. And who does He love? The scriptures never mention God loving the angels, even though they are quite magnificent and wonderful. It never says He loves animals, although He must enjoy them a lot because He made so many kinds. It does say that the Lord loves creation because it is where the object of His love lives. Who does He love? It s You and Me. God loves all humanity. We have a special place in His heart and nothing else comes close. Let s review just one verse, (OK, two verses) describing this special love relationship God wants with us. In John 3:16-17, Jesus declared, For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. God s heart is big enough to love every human being that has ever lived and ever will live. But Jesus made it very personal and exclusive when he added whoever believes in Him. 2 Statement of Faith We believe, teach and confess the Triune God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We believe, teach and confess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and the Gospel as the power of God for the salvation of all who believe in him. Jesus Christ is the Word of God incarnate, through whom everything was made and through his life, death and resurrection God fashions a new creation. The proclamation of God s message to us as both law and gospel is the Word of God, revealing judgment and mercy in the person and work of Jesus Christ through whom God was pleased to reconcile all things to himself. The canonical Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the inspired Word of God and the sole authoritive source and norm of our proclamation, faith and life. 11

SWEETHEART NIGHT OUT SATURDAY, FEBRUARY, 11 6:00 PM LUND LUTHERAN CHURCH DELICIOUS LASAGNA DINNER Suggested $10.00 per person DAN & MERILEE OTTOSON WILL ENTERTAIN FOR OUR ENJOYMENT AND INSPIRE OUR THOUGHTS OF LOVE! All are invited as God s sweethearts Have a favorite Super Bowl Team You don t care? You can still pick a favorite team or city. Bring a food item or make a donation to the Becker County Food Pantry in honor of your team The team with the most food items plus largest amount of cash will win Lund s Souper Bowl I traveling trophy You will receive a full year of bragging rights,, plus a very good feeling. The question is, Are you one of the whoevers? God s love is offered to all, but not received by all. If we don t embrace Jesus as Savior and Lord, then we remain condemned in our trespasses and sins. Then God loved us in vain. But Pastor Jim, doesn t verse 17 say that Jesus did not come to condemn us? That is right. We were already condemned, born into a broken world, burdened by our sinful nature and outside of God s holy realm. But God loves us too much to leave us alone, lost in our sins. Because of pure love, He sacrificed His perfect and innocent Son s life as an exchange for our sinfulness. Imagine this Valentine gift exchange at the foot of the cross: Jesus offers? us a heart-shaped box full of love, joy, and heaven. In exchange, we give Him a box full of hate, sorrow, and hell. The amazing thing is, Jesus wants our box. Do we want His? A beautiful image in scripture portrays the Church (meaning all who trust in Jesus) as the Bride of Jesus. Just as a healthy marriage is the best earthly example of two people joyfully giving their lives away in sacrificial love for each other, so we are invited to know love, true love, as it is demonstrated and given by Jesus to us. And we are invited to enter into the joy of loving Him back. When we see heart decorations in store windows this month, let s remember we are God s sweethearts. He invites us to receive His gift of love. Isn t that Grande? Pastor Jim Osvold LCMC Gathering Saturday, February 25 10:00 AM at Hawley Lutheran Church. Pastor Mark Van Der Tieg, National Church Coordinator, will be the speaker. All congregation members are invited, especially leaders. RSVP to Lund church for the lunch count. God offers us a DEEPER JOY Join us for Adult Sunday Class at 8:30 a.m. for a great time of fellowship and discussion as we study Paul s letter to the Philippians. Bring your Bible and your questions. You will be glad you came. 10 3

Meeting adjourned with the Lord's Prayer. Next meeting, Thurs. Feb. 2nd, 2012 Respectfully submitted, Marcy Erickson, secretary HELLO THERE, Mousey here! January was another busy month. We got to hear the ladies sing some beautiful songs and then the Sunday School kids sang. Wow, did those three girls sing great! Some of the kids were sick and couldn t be there. I hope they all feel better. I also hope that I don t get it. There is always so much to see that I spend Sunday mornings running from the kids Sunday School class to the adult Sunday School class. Then its worship time and that is my favorite. I have to check out who is in church and that takes a lot of running too. Keeps me nice and trim. We have a big meeting coming on Sunday and then a Potluck dinner. Whoopee!!! Food. Those ladies always bring good stuff. I am so thankful for them and all they do in my church. I hear that we will have a sweetheart dinner in February and there are a lot of people coming. I hope more of my church family decides to come too. If I get to come, I know everyone is welcome. Dan and Merilee Ottoson will be there, giving us some beautiful music and a message. God just keeps sending us so many good things. I think Pastor Jim gets pushed by God to come up with neat ideas. This will be a first for Lund and we have had many firsts this last year and I bet we have more firsts in 2012. What a wonderful place this is to live. Till next month. God bless you all. Mousey 5
