Parish Mission Statement Through our Roman Catholic Faith, Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish is committed to welcoming, engaging, and serving a diverse population in the Heights/Hillcrest area. Established in 2010 through a merger of St. Margaret Mary and St. Gregory the Great Parishes, Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish is a vibrant center of Catholic worship, education, faith formation, service, evangelization, and community life. Through these apostolates, we seek to enable our members to establish and nurture a relationship with Jesus Christ and carry forth His mission in the world. Twenty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time August 30, 2015 The Pharisees and Scribes questioned Jesus: Why do your disciples not follow the tradition of the elders He responded, Well did Isaiah prophesy about you hypocrites, as it is written: This people honors me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me; in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrine human precepts. You disregard God s commandments but cling to human tradition. Then he summoned the crowd and said to them, Hear me, all of you, and understand. Nothing that enters one from outside can defile but the things that come out from within are what defile.

FROM BISHOP LENNON TO THE CATHOLICS OF CLEVELAND On August 4 Bishop Richard G. Lennon wrote to the parishes of the Diocese: I write to encourage you to attend the Amazing Grace: Bridging the Racial Divide forum to be held October 9 and 10 at St. John of the Cross Parish, 140 Richmond Road, Euclid, Ohio. Quoting from the U.S. Catholic Bishops Pastoral Letter on Racism, Brothers and Sisters to Us, the Bishop reminds us that racism is a sin that divides the human family, blots out the image of God among specific members of that family, and violates the fundamental human dignity of those called to be children of the same Father. He points out the timeliness of this forum and the quality of the keynote presenters, panelists and workshop presenters. He challenges us all to reflect on what we might do as a church and individually to eradicate the social evil of racism. There are a few brochures which provide the purpose of the forum itself and the schedule of each day available in the Parish Office. More information can be obtained from Vanessa Griffin Campbell, Director of the Office of Ministry to African American Catholics. Vanessa can be reached by phone at 216.696.6525, ext. 3020, or by email at www.dioceseofcleveland.org/parishlife/ africanamericancatholics/. Cost for this forum is $50/person (non-refundable). CEU s and a limited number of scholarships are available. Registration deadline is September 11, 2015.
